Default '03 S2K Rear Bearing Squeak Over and Over

Good morning All,

Got a repeating problem w/ left rear wheel bearing that squeaks not metal-to-metal. Its rythmic with rotation and the beat slows as rotation slows. Hear it mostly (at least at first when slowing to stop or in mod. hard right turns. Took it dealer the first time. They (and I) assumed diff. problem (never heard a whl bearing squeak like this). They checked the dif and then pulled the whl. bearing and showed me. Very cooked. They replaced bearing and bob was my uncle for 2-3 months and then squeaking started again. I assume that the squeaking is the seal in the bearing. But the bearing had really gotten hot. Second - back to the dealer where they BS'ed me with greasing the spindle (??). Lasted 1 mo. Its baaack!!. Going to tear this pup down my self. I understand that the required torque setting for the spindle nut has changed from 180 to 220lbf (?). Going to look at this proper torque and for any cracks etc in hub or knuckle. Will also measure inside/outside dia. of hub/ knuckle. I don't receive APIs. Anybody had similar experiences? Any ideas/suggestions? Thanks in advance.

Dam I have the same problem also, but mine is on the right rear wheel.. I took it to my friend who works for honda and we checked the wheel hub and bearing and it was all good. We will probably recheck the diff like you, to see if we could figure something out soon...

As an update to my post on the bearing squeak. So far I have checked the torque on the spindle nut and found that the dealer set it to 160 lbf. I loosened and re-torqued to 225 and the squeak is now diminished but still there. I have a new hub, bearing and spindle nut. and will be pulling it down this week or next and will examine all parts and report the results.

It actually needs to be torqued down a lot more than that. See Rear Axle Nut DIY

^--- troof. hit it with 300+ and it'll still be way under the limit for the 36mm nut. Which reminds me, I gotta figure out how my caps are put on

When re-torquing the nut, make sure you have greased the inward face of the nut or you will not get to the recommended torque.
