spun bearing s2k ? or thrust bearing
hello, i just brought my s2k.. little did i know
that they eat a quart every day.
so after a month of owning the car, i checked the oil.
seem a bit low on the L side so i added a quart in.
went that weekend and buzz around the highway with
some friends. the next following weekend decided to take
it to the track to see if the car is running in good condition.
since i already checked the oil about 2 weeks before i didn't
think it would be low ( rookie mistake ). first pass down the track
the oil came on during 3rd gear and lost vtec.
the oil light would only come on below 1k rpm and it has
a hard time staying at 1k specially if you stop and go or go and stop.
i notice alot of vibration as i engaged gear one on the clutch
like a hammer is hitting at the bottom of my feet. runs fine
once you're in gear even if you accel and decel. drove back
home about an hour and its fine on the high way. no knocking
except when engaging gear one. doesn't do it in neutral. ( vtec
doesn't work any more ) wants to stall during stopping at the light.
open the oil pan and there are a bit of metal shaving...
open the vtec sol and there is a bit of metal shaving..
could it be the thrust bearing? had this problem in the civic
once and though it was the rod but when i took it apart
it end up being the thrust bearing and everything was fine.
sorry for my grammar... if in case it is the rod or main
can i change it out while the motor is in the car ( hopefully
its not damage beyond repair )

Id say take pics of the thrust bearing. I would imagine its the thrust bearing since you feel it when you change gears. Rod bearings gone bad wouldnt do that, i dont think. Like i said, take pics.

The car shouldn't be burning that much oil. But that's another issue now. It sounds like a thrust bearing. But...you should open it up. Nobody on here is going to know for sure over the computer.

The S2000 pan is honda-bond'ed in. You'll have to pry it apart pretty good. But yes..make sure all the fasteners are out.

There is an opening between the pan and trans that's a perfect spot to pry on with a screw driver or pry bar. They can be really on there

Take my advice I just got done putting a 03 F20C in a 03 S2k all because previous owner was dumb and tried half assing the rod bearing from under the car.. Get her up on jack stands pull out that clutch fork and take the engine out if you dont pull the clutch fork out of the throwout bearing u wont be able to get the engine out get it out on a stand and pull the pan off and the upper pan and see whats wrong.. Dont cheap out clean it all out get oem honda bearings go threw the OEM Honda COLOR CODES NUMBER CODES get it fixed before you ruin the whole engine the walls when they are ruined its game over you can sell the block once the FRM is ruined no go...
