Default Which spark plugs do I use? '00 AP1

taken from an s2ki google cache:

There has been some confusion lately about "what spark plugs should I use for my application". This info may help to make better decisions. All of this info is directly from the NGK 2006 Automotive Applications catalog.

The plug for MY00-02 and 04-05 is the PFR7G-11S (stock number 7772). This is a platinum, fine-tip plug, heat range 7. If one desires a colder plug to replace it, the IFR8H-11 (5068), and IFR9H-11 (6588) are iridium fine-tip plugs one and two steps colder, respectively. These are resistor plugs.

If you want a copper replacement, BKR7E (6097) or BKR7E-11 (1283) are the same heat range as OE and are resistor plugs. There is no 8 heat range copper resistor plug to replace OE. There is an iridium BKR8EIX (2668), but the IFR8H-11 and IFR9H-11, mentioned above, are the same "FR" series plug as OE and therefore should be better alternatives.

Racing plug replacements are non-resistor plugs. The choices are R5672A-8 (7173) heat range 8, and R5672A-9 (7405) heat range 9, which are one and two steps colder than stock, respectively. These are projected tip (like OE), but have V-cut center electrodes and are copper plugs. Should you want an iridium racing plug, the choices are R7435-8 (4895) and R7435-9 (4896) which are one and two steps colder that OE, respectively. These are fine-tip iridium non-resistor plugs.

The stock replacement listed for MY03 is IFR7G-11KS (7746). This is an iridium fine-tip plug. I don't know why the listing for 03 is different than the rest. I guess 03 owners are cooler than everybody else All other replacement info is the same as above.

I hope this helps to resolve some of the questions people have been having about spark plug replacement.

i honestly cannot figure out where to begin to address these kind of comments. i asked for a tip to save money and i get a couple of pretty childish responses. i may be wrong, but isn't this an automotive forum?

NGK 7173 and 7772 may be compatible - unconfirmed.

ROFL!

that made me laugh pretty hard.

but on a serious note, what are the best spark plugs to use? does it matter if i "upgrade" to the pretty iridium ones from the stock plugs?

^^^^ BWAHAHHAHAHAA

The Jerk strikes again.

Iridium IS the only replacement for the OEM Platinum Plus's. Copper is good for making water pipes, speaker cable, and cheap spark plugs.

Figured if I can spend 40$ per oil change for synthetics, I can afford $50-60 of spark plugs. Why cheat your motor?

that is part of the convo, but the bottom line is i tore your ******* apart and all you could do was call me names. then when i took that away from you? you could do nothing. at least you proved my point that you turn internet forums into ***** waving contests. if you can't contribute other than to be a jerk, don't.

projekt, from my research on some more technical forums, copper plugs perform better but have to be changed more frequently. i will be happy to spend $50 on plugs (expensive plugs can be had at $11-13 a piece), but not $60 on crap platinuum plugs from honda. besides, i'm not exactly running a race motor or a supercharger in the car, so why spend so much on plugs, know what i mean? jerk couldn't understand that, i guess.

it would be nice if more people posted with content instead of to be a dick or wave their ***** in the air for everyone.

ok, i'm not taking sides on this one but they prob. think your just anohter noob(seeing you dont post here) asking a generic question.
another thing is most of them know each other one way or anohter (hence some of them are part of the fr-mob), so just dont f**k with them and you'll be fine on here. if you do, your just going to think they are all ********, but they're not. you just have to learn what to ask and what to search for first before making a new thread.

I'm not advocating the "$60 crap platinuum plugs from honda" (YOUR OPINION, mind you), which are supposedly good for 107k miles, according to Honda idiots. My point is that, with the same money ($12 a piece for the Denso Iridiums), I could have plugs that are proven to perform better, and last just as long, if not longer. I doubt I'll ever hit 100k miles in my car, so I don't expect these plugs to fail any time soon. And yes, I do consider switching to copper plugs a downgrade. If you're not any where close to the end of their life span, why switch them out? Even the $20 you spent on the copper plugs can be considered a waste of money because you changed them prematurely.

Speaking of race motors, I think the F20/22 comes pretty close to it, probably closer than any stock street motors out there.

Today I spent about

80 bucks for Engine, Trans, Diff Oil.
8 bucks for a Honda Oil Filter
60 for spark plugs OE Laser Iridiums
38 for a new Air Filter
85 for new front and rear brakes
20 bucks for turning rotors

this car aint cheap, but hell I want my baby to last! BTW I hit 50k today

hey, not to debate-
when i had my turbo accord i was running copper plugs(bkr7e) because they could handle the power i had(250 whp), and lasted for about 2500 miles until i had to change them. denso iridiums lasted about 200 miles till i pulled them out and checked them, and they were completely burnt. so would this kind of be true for all cars? that copper plugs last longer then iridium because they can handle the power?

you again!!!!!!300 mi. on a full tank in an s2k, now this?!? dude you have to tell me your secret. lol what kind of copper plugs were they?
my car was tuned profesasionally by a guy on here w/ crome. no fmu/safc crap for me. but after 2.5k miles i check my plugs and they were burnt up. there are a lot of people here who have bkr7e's and only last up to 3k miles with them on boosted applications.
