Salvage Title: Pro and Cons?
Title, gentlemen. I'm currently researching S2000s, and I keep coming across nice examples, just with blue or salvage titles. What are the pros and cons of buying/owning a salvage title vehicle?

If you plan on having a reliable daily driver, that you want to get serviced at a dealer and possibly sell in the future, I would only look into clean title car.

I see. I'm avoiding flood recoveries, etc and have come across quite a few theft recoveries with salvage titles. So it's more for the resale value than anything then?
Or as I'm reading it's all in what happened to it to earn the title?

You don't just 'get' a salvage title for no good reason. They are issued for a reason and those reasons are never good.
While I agree why the car was branded salvage is important I personally would stay away.
For S2000's (older ones), a top slashed up, seats and steering wheel stolen would probably be enough to issue a salvage title if going through insurance.

Re: Salvage Title: Pro and Cons?
It's dependent on your budget and whether you ever plan to resell the vehicle. People say it doesn't matter if the title is salvaged and that it just depends on the reason of the salvaged title. I call partial BS because I wouldn't ever consider buying a salvaged title unless I planned on tracking it only, or never re-selling it and keeping it as a toy. Most people buy cars with a possibility to sell if the situation permits. The only thing I can tell you is if you do buy salvaged then you better make sure you buy cheap. I bought a 50k mile, clean titled with a mugen replica hardtop S2k for 5900 cash. Not trying to brag but my point is there are deals out there and I wouldn't spend the 6k people are asking on some salvaged title vehicle.

I do plan on this being my next DD, so I'll be looking at something else. But if you're interested, the deal was an '02 GPW/full red interior with Brides, few other mods (I/H/E). 75k miles on it, and he was asking $10.5k.

Pro: Cheap
Con: Possibly dangerous, You still pay the same registration amount as a clean title in most states, you still pay the cost of clean title s2000 for insurance purposes IF they even take you in since very few companies write salvaged vehicles and then they pay you out less than half of a clean title worth in a claim and lastly, hard to resell.

gpw is the color to get
I had an 05 that I converted the interior to black and it sold within 2 days for full asking price.
as far as salvage goes, you drive the car not the title. Do your research on why it was totaled out and ask the seller if he has any before repair pictures. The key concerns beyond that will be resell value and insurance payout if it gets totaled.

Here's the car:
http://www.s2ki.com/s2000/topic/8872...pw-s2000-mods/
Full list of mods, although I'll be asking for the stock seat back, and possibly the stock exhaust. I'm a Q300 fan, myself. Really think that's a good deal?
Right, requisite pics:

its not a good deal considering i value a salvage car half of kbb.
if you want to keep it then it could be good but if you get bored and want to sell it say a year later you will have a very hard time.
my cousin picked a 01 up for 6k with salvage title
i see ap1's go for 6-7k alot now because younger kids own them.
only thing good about the car is the color combo.
if you stick with the car than it may not be a bad deal for you.

The only ones I see going for 6-7k are over 125k miles, or beat to hell honestly.

Re: Salvage Title: Pro and Cons?
I guess to each it's own. I refuse to own a salvaged title car but I will rock replica wheels. I find this kind of funny because some people care so much about fake wheels but will have a salvaged title. There was a dude at a local orlando meet that kind of shunned my s2k because I have xxr's. He has CCW's BUT.... He has a salvaged title lmao. Teach it's own when it's all said and done.
$13k for a salvage title? Wow. I'm giving this car serious thought.

Yep, salvage title due to theft. I was going to offer him around $8k, including mods. But it's far as hell from me, I'll be in NC and the car is in Texas.
