Default I want an S2k. Will this work.

well ok i have about $7000 cash. I saw an ad for an S2k for 16500 obo. Now lets say that i talk this guy down to $15,500. And i give him the $7000 and get loan from the bank of $8500. and $8500 for 5 years would be $1700 per year. Which also would be $141 per month. Are these numbers correct?

The loan is with the help of my parents. they're going to help me pay half of the monthly payments. I just need to get the facts straight before asking my parents. Its really hard to convince my parents with anything. ANd if i approach this with a mature way they will consider it.

But like i said. I just need to know what there is to know about obtaining a loan. Now remember that my parents are getting the loan, not me. are the numbers correct from how i have it as? thanks.

Don't even think payments on any honda/acura before you get a quote for insurance, especially if u are under 30yrs age and single! Thats enough to shock u. I hope u don't live anywhere near NYC OR LA

because you may or may not have credit, I just did an estimation at 7.5% financing, which is on the waaaay high side of things. that would come to $170 a month. Also estimate insurance, gas, a ticket or two vs. a Valentine 1 for $400, then let's include an oil change for every 3months or 3K miles, then add on the biggie - tires tires tires. It's not to say what will or will not work for you, but you have to look at the big picture or else you will wind up with a car that you cannot afford to maintain. It's not to say it is big at maintaining by any means, but expenses such as tires and insurance might not be the same as a Civic.

My advice, wait till the time is right and your budget isn't streached to the point you are counting down the dollars and saying to yourself, "can I afford this since it is five bucks cheaper a month?" Instead, find something you can afford and not sink every dollar you have into it.

In respect to what you are going to finance......

8500 @ 5 years @ ..... 6.5% would be payments of...... $166.33/month

Insurance.... expect to pay well it varies, depends on your driving record and where you live...... in CT, I pay 2700 for full coverage on my S and a nothing but Liability on my 88 CRX with 50/100 coverage.....

Gas for the S - usually 20 bucks a fill up with on average 25 MPG... (cause I like VTEC)

maintenance...... that is hard to estimate, but you do go through tires quicker and they ain't cheap.....

You can't figure out if you can own a car simply by doing the math that you AFFORD TO BUY it......

Whoops.. don't forget about property taxes... I should be seeing a bill for about 600 bucks as a gift for owning my S.........

kinda makes you wanna say...... EEKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKK

im not worry about gas, insurance or food. And ive also said that MY parents are gonna be gettin the loan. not me. If its going to be at $166 per month... then that is all that i needed to know. Cause i can afford $166 and the payments that im going to be making is going to my parents.

the insurance is going to be under my dads name. and as for gas? WOW 25mpg??? man i had an MR2 Turbo that got 15mpg if i ***** foot it. The REAL question was about the payments

insurance - still, even if it is under your dad's name, he needs to understand that since you are under the policy, the youngest driver get's the largest foot of the bill. this is to say, you are the primary driver for this vehicle. if it is proven otherwise, then that's insurance fraud. thus, it will be expensive. it is just my take, but I am guessing you are between 17 and 19 years old. the insurance discount at 25 will cut it in half if not a little better. so, 2500 a year minimum would be my guess on insurance. so long as he understands that.

having an mr2 turbo or not - regardless of the point, you might want to figure in a huge deductable for the rear tires getting lose, you swinging it into a curb and doing a few grand worth of damage to the suspension - or, you can take a few classes at a HPDE.

haha i really appreciate everyones reply. But the REAL question still remains.. and the question has nothing to do with INSURANCE, GAS, and tires etc. lol please everyone stick to the question..

and yes my dad totally understands the 2500 a year. Cause the mr2 that i had was right at 2400 a year under my name. Im just hopping over from an MR2 to an S2k and the question was about PAYMENT

If you doing your calculations straight up like that, then you're paying 0.0% interest rate.

But if you just want you answer you question then no that would not be correct.

$8500 / 5 years = $1700.

$1700 / 12 months = $141.67 <- so tell you parents they'll need to put another $0.335 aside for their half of your car payment.

and it's just my opinion that $16000 is a really good deal on an S2000 or the car is garbage. Don;t low ball the guy you purchase it from. It's not like your paying for it yourself anyway. Have fun and be safe.

Another expense is tires. I don't know if your parents are hooking you up with that too, but I ran through my s-02's in 6 months with no track time, totally didn't expect it.

1. consider all your expenses, or you'll be selling it faster than you can imagine
2. i doubt you'll talk him down to that price
3. you need to get the loan first... no idiot will be like sure here's my car for 8 grand jus tlet me know when you get financing for the other half
4. If the price is that low, the car is probably a salvate
5. If you put spinners and neons on the car, do us a favor and join the site http://www.riceboyruinsS2k.com Thanks.

For the record, Its not you I have any contempt for, its your parents. They are helping to foster the irresponsible generation of kids (stunnas) that have little or no concept of responsibility or accountability...
Have a nice day.

Just curious, what happened to the MR2 Turbo? Those things can spank an s2k around an autocross pretty well if you can handle them.

Well i honestly I would love to get another MR2. But its such an old car now. I had a 91 with all BPUs and a boost controller doing 14.5~ with drag radials. The car was real fun.. but gas was really horrible. I ended up filling that car up every 3 days. Even when i do ***** foot it. But that wasn't the reason why i sold it.. It was just a really old car. I was about to purchase another Mister2 but my mom suggested that i buy a different car and make payments on it.

I would love to autocross it.. but i always come real close to losing my back end when driving on regular street.. the Mister2 is VERY unforgiving once you do lose it.

I'm tired of people saying this crap. The kid is working, and making car payments. He's only talking 15k not something like a 40k car. It's better for a kid to make payments to their parents. Just so they dont get into too much trouble if they miss a payment or something like that. Good way to ease them into the real world. If the kid misses a payment, parents take away the car, better than paying interest out the *** or something for a missed payment (don't know what happens when you're late), or maybe getting the car repoed? In the end he will be paying it all off. Also, whats wrong with parents spending a little on their children if they have money. Just cause you weren't *** fortunate as him doesn't mean you should give him ****. O yea it's possible to actually give something to your kids and still have them not be spoiled. Anyway, you will prolly take my post the wrong way as some rich kid trying to justify, but you know the side im trying to get at. No need to dump on the kid and other kids just cause you weren't as fortunate. No, im not rich, no my parents didn't buy me a car. Either way you sound like a grumpy old bastard.

edit: o yea and I know plenty of irresponsible stunnas who bought their car and everything on it

Sorry to hijack your thread JDMugen but,

My mom bought me a CRX when I was 16....then a new civic when I turned 18....

I bought a new S2000 last November and haven't missed a payment yet. and yes i fronted the down payment and I'm paying the insurance.

I have my own apartment, and will hopefully be buying a house next November. Just saving for a big down payment.

I don't think of my self as having little or no concept of responsibility or accountability.

Just had to stick up for my mom .

Just so you know the S2k loses the back end even more suddenly than old mister2, so just look out. Be sure you go lose it at the autocross so you know how to avoid it on the street.
