How much to replace wheel bearing?
I have experienced a whining noise that I have pretty much narrowed down to a bad wheel bearing. How much does this run to replace? Lets go with dealership standards or a reputable shop if anyone has had one replaced. Thanks

about $55 for parts and about 2-3 hrs worth shop labor. About $200+ from the dealer. Did you notice any play in wheel movement when having the car up in the air? Have you checked if one hub feels hotter than another after freeway driving with light braking?

I haven't had the car up in the air yet, but I periodically check for excess heat from the hub. All of the hubs are consistently the same temperature (thumb guage) even after upwards of 45 minute trips. It is hard to diagnose where the whining noise is coming from, so I have been researching whether it could be a wheel bearing or possibly something wrong with the input shaft. I have quite a long post on S2ki.com about it but was just seeing if anyone on here had experienced such problems. Thanks for the replies

Does the whine increase in pitch as you increase speed? Is the whine affected when turning left or right? If you do manage to get the car up in the air, you can check for play by moving the wheel/tire assembly around on secure jack stands, or start the car and slip it into gear and listen for any unsual noises.

Ok, so obviously if the wheel has any play it is defected. Would the TSB on the axle nut cover this? Also, if the whining noise is coming from the drivetrain, how can I further diagnose the problem, whether it is the driveshaft, tranny, etc.? Thanks again for the replies.
