Icon2 Catalytic Converter Replacement - Best Option

Greetings, I have a CEL for the OEM catalytic converter and don't want to pay ~$1,000 to replace with a Honda OEM cat, but also don't want to buy something cheap that causes the light to come back on quickly. >155,000 miles on S2K AP1.

Is the berk technologies cat high enough quality to serve as a cat replacement with respect to the CEL? I'm seeing a lot of threads that overall praise this cat's performance and craftsmanship but interested to know if CELs are lighting up after a year of use or less. Any other alternate cat replacements that would work better than Berk (flow, quality, and no CEL)?

yes. high flow cats, especially good quality ones, will stop the CEL from coming on.

My BF and I have both had Berk HFCs on both of our 2003s for about a year now and neither have thrown any CELs.

I would check out the Berks hfc. Or can also get a test pipe with an anti fouler. I have never had a cel come on with my test pipe and anti fouler installed.

I would personally get on s2ki and see if someone is parting out and has one. I have seem them for around $100, if not cheaper on there.

I personally have a T1R test pipe with the anti fouler on it to keep the CEL off ($7 to make from an auto parts store). I love the T1R and have the same on my ITR, great quality piece. I have an aftermarket 70 mm exhaust also, and the test pipe defiantly cut down on the drone. I did however run the T1R TP with the stock exhaust, and oh my.. I may want to go back especially if I'm going through with the 4.77 gearing, it defiantly makes the stock exhaust sound a little more peppier and it has this small rasp to it that actually sounds very appealing.

That's just my opinion, I'm sure Berk Technologies are great also as I've heard good things about them as well.. I'm just bias with T1R because I have their Response header and header back exhaust on my ITR and I've had no issues with them what so ever on the track, and off and on the ITR it sounds great and doesn't have drone and it's not too loud.

There's my opinions on two separate cars, and three products lol.

And BTW, I have an s2000 cat off of mine with 74k on it in perfect condition and it's just laying around waiting for a new owner; PM me if you'd be interested.. Didn't write to throw a sales pitch, but if you really want an OEM one I have one.

Ealiy models dont supposedly have issues with the CEL with the spacer. It's just later models taht cant seem to trick the cel. Someone needs to make a good resistor to plug into it.

Anyone know the flow difference between the berk and new oem? Honda is supposed to have great flow from the beginning.

Their website says "Our test data shows that this cat flows 87% as well as a test pipe vs. 43% for the OEM Cat".

Hate to take their word for it! Some independent with a flow bench needs to test it. I may look into one since I haven't bought a speed mod in forever. Any db change in the exhaust note @wot?

I haven't noticed any change in dB level with my stock exhaust, but there is a little bit of a different sound... I'm not sure how to describe it. It cut out a lot of drone on my bf's car (he has an Apex N1 single), i.e. made it a little more tolerable IMO.

Will never work, if it was that simple it would have Been done a long time ago. It won't work because the ecu is supposed to be reading a fluctuating value. While a resistor hack in line with the o2 sensor could provide a correct value at or near the typical typical operating conditions, it will never be capable of giving fluctuating values that would be read by the sensor during real life conditions

Good to know. I'm not looking to make my car loud for no reason. Increased flow, decreased pumping losses, less impact on the engine hopefully. Feel like posting a youtube of the stock ehaust with the berk HFcat? I cant find stock exhaust with only a HFC on youtube.

I was wondering why it hadnt been done. I didnt know my computer knew to expect the fluctuation. Guess that's fine if I go with a Berk anyway.

Use an O2 simulator, worked great on my civic. Fooled the ecu with a square wave signal. Just make sure it fluctuates between the same voltages as stock. Made mine for about $12 from radioshack.

catco dirrect fit sells replacements through summit for 270 or run a test pip and add one behind it and never have to worry about paying more than 100 for a hfc again.
