To fix that what I did was take a carpet deodorizer cap, bought a $3 magnet at the hardware store and ran a nut/bolt through it and slapped it on the filter... works great!

just as long as you dont have a modified intake you should be fine
and even if you do have a modified intake just get one with a cover or fabricate one

I rode my ruckus all winter long last season. At the time I had a stock intake set-up. It worked flawlessly and I never ran into a single issue. It saw rain, snow, slush, ice, and lots of subzero temps.
