my 99 prelude started making a whining sound after driving it pretty fast down the highway. When we heard it start to make the sound, we pulled off and the oil cap had blown off and a small amount of oil was missing. When we got it back to the house we topped off the oil but the sound was still present. so we thought it was the fuel pressure regulator, the gauge had been flooded with gas, but after rebuilding it, I don't think that is the case. There were small medal shavings in the fuel pressure regulator but I rebuilt it and that is no longer the case but the whine did not go away. The whine is only present when you are accelerating and goes away if you take your foot off the gas. the speedometer also turns off when your foot is on the gas but turns right back on once you take your foot off of the gas. My prelude does have a turbo running at 8 pounds and has all stock internals in the engine so I am praying it has nothing to do with either and is just something easier to fix. Is there a possibility it is the axel or gears? please help! I just want my baby back up and running!!!

I have no idea how running a turbo and stock internals would make you think its possible for them to cause the issue you are having when neither of them have electrical components directly wired to them. Sounds like you have a bad VSS (vehicle speed sensor) or ECU, those are the only things I can think of that would cause your issue of the speedometer not working properly. And the whining is a hard one to diagnose you haven't given any real description of where you think the whining is coming from, and does it only whine when driving or does it do it when at a stop also?
