Whats the difference between h22a and h22a1 engines?
Hey can you guys help me out, I just got my 95 prelude vtech and I was just curious what was the difference between the two engines. A friend of mine has a h22a1 in his 94 prelude vtech and he says his is not as fast and my h22a. Is it true? I wanted to know what really are the differences between them. THANKs!!

first of all they arent vtech if you look at your motor or the back of the car it says vtec (if you even have the vtec model) secondly if its not a type s h22a or something like that its the same HP so its not faster difference should be in the decks

the compression is different like 10.6 vs. 10.1 and the engine is rated at 200 psi which is like a 198 or so horsepower -- the 92-96 h22a1s have 190 hp and the 96+s had 195 hp so the jdm engine makes a little bit more power... but not much more than its usdm spec counterpart.. oh yeah and the transmission gearing in the jdm h22s is shorter than us so they are slightly faster than the us spec preludes....

above the transmission stamp right below the distributor is a block stamp that should say something like h22a1 usdm or just h22a if it is a jdm engine that is how you tell..

Yeah, thats where I checked. It says h22a, so I guess its a JDM engine? I don't know what the previous owner done to that car, but did my car originally come with it? Or was it swapped in? 1995 Honda Prelude Vtec.

If the car is a 95 Si vtec than yes it was origanaly a vtec car with h22a1, and if the car was origanaly a vtec car the easiest way to find out is the tac. if it redlines at 7500, vtec, theres other ways but u get it.

The H22A is a JDM motor that came in either the Honda Prelude Type-S ( 220 hp ) or the Honda Prelude Si-R S-Spec ( 200 hp ). The H22A1 is a closed-deck block that came in USDM fouth-gens. The fifth-gen Preludes came with H22A4s ( open-deck blocks ).
