Weird wistleing sound @ 4000RPM
While I'm driving my car, in every gear I hear a whistleing sound right after 4000 rpms. It sound like a mini blow off valve. I had my mechanic look where the sound was coming from and he can't find it. Does anyone have this same problem?

oh btw. do you have any mods done to your car? do you have a header? or something, cause if you do maybe while putting it on, they didnt tighten something up good, or something pinched your pipe and there is a hole or something...just a thught..

Well I have stock hearders bacause I don't know whats the best headers for my car. But I do know for a fact that the noise started happening after some guy fell asleep at the wheel and crushed my right front fender. I think it might of damaged some thing by the intake box. Not sure.

if you have an aftermarket intake its most likely is the intake. when i put my aftermarket one on it did the same thing. shouldnt be a problem though, just means its sucking in more air. and it got even louder when i took my cat out.

my mechanic says it might be some kind of air pump. I've got all stock parts on my car so its weird that I hear this whisling sound.
By the way I don't want to post a whole new topic over this but, what is the safest way to clean my engine? I was putting degreaser first and then power spraying it with water but i don't think thats very safe. I'm thinking of using a steam cleaner, like the ones you buy at walmart for houshold cleaning. What do you think?

Some people have come up with some interesting & possible ideas. One more possibility is the throttle-body. My Prelude made a whistling sound at some RPM at a certain level of throttle. I concluded it was air flowing through the t-body in just the right way to make a whistling sound.

yeah, well the shop says that it might be the tb, or becuase i have a header and there is a lot more air being flowed, but there is not leaks, holes, nothing. I went with a drive with the macanic and he can here it too, but he says that it might not be nothing surious. At first, they thought it might be the intake, but I knew what it sounded like any ways. So yeah, it might be becuase of the accident, but just make sure that there is no leaks or anything, if not, then everything should be ok.

not to steal this thread, but, yeah, when I step on the gas harder, it does go away. What can I do to fix this?

It comes from the screw on the throttle body on the passenger side , it makes the air filter wistle.
What is that screw for by the way ? an uncle told me it was to tune the idle.
The sound should stop if you unscrew it a little, you can mark you old setting so you can put it back if it doesn' t change.
That's the way I fix mine don' t know if it's the right way
