Turn Signal Mirrors?!? Make 'em? SURE!!!
I thikn it would be pretty simple to make these but I was wondering if anyone has tried?
My idea is to take out the mirror out of the side mirror and put in LED's (in an arrow configuration), then all you need to do is put resistors in and wire it to the blinkers. Here is the rub: How does the chevy/ford mirrors let the light shine through them? Because the driver can't actually see the mirror blinking but the LED's just kinda shine through the mirror? Any ideas?
Here is what they look like (if you are living in a cave)...

Re: Turn Signal Mirrors?!? Make 'em? SURE!!! (Sticky Tires)
I have posted questions like this before in the Prelude section... because I own a Prelude.
I don't want to step on any toes but it says on the main page that the Appearance/Cosmetic thread is for: "Appearance related discussion. Off topic and non-technical appearance questions will be moved here." This is definately a technical issue... so i feel it belongs here!

really? well i thought it looks pretty cool on some othre cars (and SUV's) but i'd like to hear more people's opinions....
(A) Is this rice?
(B) Is this gayer than rice?
(C) Or is this a cool idea that looks pimp?
I think it's (C) but I'd be interested in what others have to say!

okay even if you think this is a cool idea, im not gonna argue about this, it would be next to impossible. If you know anything about the way mirrors are made, then you would realize this would be next to impossible with stock mirrors.
The way mirrors are made, they are placed in a vacuum with this chunk of powdery substance, the substance explodes in the vacuum and coats the glass, making it reflective. The substance is not see through!
You can not place LED's on the backside of the mirror and expect them to show through. The only 2 possible ways to do this would be:
1 have some kind of clear sticky thing made that has really flat LED's in it that sticks to the mirror (would look like **** IMO)
and 2 have custom mirror glass made that has the LED's made into the glass, then coated the with the mirroring substance (would be very expensive to do for a small number of mirrors. maybe if you know somebody who owns APC or some rice company, you could take them into making these in large numbers so that it would be cost effective, and then every 1975 honda civic with black steelies could have them too and look just like a new SUV.

Anyways... i never thought that people would think this was rice?!!? I HATE rice **** on cars too, from stickers that people think add horsepower, to wings that can make the car take-off better than a 747!
That being said, if it is done right and the finished products looks just like other OEM mirrors then it would be sweet. And I think you can scratch the back of the mirror so that it would be like a 2-way mirror and would let the LED's shine though.
Rice = bad. Mirrors = sweet.

if you want them led arrows so bad why don't you get a SUV or caddy, better yet why don't you take side mirrors from a SUV and custom modify it to your car.

Man, I swear everybody just lurks around for reasons to flame people these days. If LEDs in the mirrors is what you want then go for it! To hell with what everyone else thinks, its your car.
As for the actual process. I have personally used HCL (Hydrochloric Acid) to remove the reflective backing off of a piece of mirrored glass before and the spots that were treated become normal everyday transparent glass. If you could localize the HCL to the small circles that the LEDs would fit in then I think it is possible. These circles would show up as normal glass and not reflective mirror at all times though.

haha, i hear ya man... and do you mean honda-TECH as in "Technology???" surely not, cuz the idea of putting LED's behind a mirror int he shape of an arrow involves absolutely no technology and no intelect whatsoever, right? People always hatin, so pitiful.....

why not.. just try to use some fiberglass and kinda like.. make the mirrors a bit bigger.. say add a lower section to it and have the LED in that part.. under the mirror? would that work? we use fiberglass and make all kind of holders and pods inside the car. sure you can add a small rounded section under and place the LED's in there..
if worst come to worst. hehehehe use Xmas lights one at at time.. and make them chase each other
kinda bump version.. fiber glass and add the grey and insert the lights
