Im running synthetic oil in the lude, oil changes are becoming a little expensive, so I was considering the change to no synthetic, but I heard you cant cuz it'll smoke, or cause lumps in the oil, I also heard that u can flush the system with tranny fluid to get out the synthetic oil and switch to non synthetic? can I?

I would HIGHLY suggest you NOT put anything but automobile enginge oil in our engine. Not turbine engine oil or auto or manual tranny fluid. There are ways to flush out your engine but thats not the way. Seach arround and your probably going to find out most people are going to syntetic and not the other way arround. Most would suggest to run semi-syn for a change or two then back to regular oil to let everything adjust. JMO ]

Yeah, just use castrol syntec blend. At the H dealership, they switched me to non-synthetic even though I told them not to and it was fine. Honestly, if its that expensive just change it yourself, its not hard. Thats how I started, and now I am back to mobil 1

Putting tranny fluid in the oil is not needed. The reason people do this is because of a cleaning agent that the fluid has. However, engine oils contain this agent too.

1. Going from synthetic back to petroleum based oils is FINE! There is no need to flush the motor or any other ceremonial wastes of monies. DO NOT, for ANY reason pour tranny fluid into your engine, thats insane. There is any old 'hot rod' tale of bleeding in ATF fluid via a vacuum hose to clean out the cc's, and do away w/ some carbon build up, but on a new car, that's unneccessary, especially if you've been using the proper octane gas.

2. Do not, for ANY reason use: slick 50, prolong, or any of that snake skin oil; it's all BULLSHIT. Matter of fact, slick 50 aka quaker state got SUED by the FTC and settled for FALSE advertising!

It says right in your owners manual not to put oil additives in your car. And that it will only be wasting your money.

there's no problems with interchanging synthetic for dinosaur juice or vice versa at any time.

if there were, then there would be so such thing as "synthetic blend" oils.

If your engine has more than 100,000mi on it and you've always used conventional oil, DON"T go to synthetic. You'll just open Pandoras box if you do. Synthetic oil is much better at cleaning your engine than standard oil. If you go to synthetic you'll losen up all the crap in your motor and its almost impossible to get the oil clean again. I've had to rebuild 3 of 6 cylinders in an airplane because the owner decided to put in moble 1 in an older engine. Another example, a friend of mine put Avblend in his b16 with 110000 miles on it. Avblend is a synthetic lubricant oil additive. Ever since, even with new oil, the oil is blackened.

what about going the other way around? how many mile should i have on ym new engine before i switch back to synthetic?

Is it a brand new engine? Then there shouldn't be any problem. Although, I would wait til its at least broken in. IMO, if your engines got more than 60,000 miles on it I'd stay with standard oil.

So your saying with my 93 vtec with 73,000 miles, changing to something like mobil 1 or castrol gtx will only cause problems? And what if there is some crud in the engine after switching... wouldnt a few oil changes make this go away? I ask because pretty soon I'm gonna be changing my oil and wanted to make sure I make a quality choice.

I changed to Pennzoil 5W50 synthetic on my car with 83,000 miles on it, and I'm a few miles away from my next service and I haven't burnt any oil at all.

when you change oil from regular to synthetic.. you will burn some oil but once the engine adapt it will be fine... I changed over to Mobil 1 synthetic Oil at around 50,000 miles in my 97 lude... i burned alot of oil at first... but after the second, and third oil change.. it stopped burning oil. Synthic Oil is only as good as your oil filter.. just a though..

hrm i had my oil done at 30k at the dealership and it says on the little sticker at the upper left corner of my windshield 5w-30 ... is that synthetic?

5w30 could be either natural, synthetic, or blend
