Strange Smell when accelerating..
My car has a weird smell when i give it full throttle. the muffler needs replacing and there might be a small oil leak from the valve cover gasket. which one is more likely to cause the smell?

the problem is, im not sure...maybe the combination of the 2. muffler im not worried about, yet. the oil is worrying me. how hard is it to change the valve cover gasket?

Its a cake Job. Any noob can do it, Im a noob and I can do it.
1. Autozone and buy new valve cover gasket like 25 bucks
2. Let car cool off
3. Remove all 4 bolts on valve cover, PVC valve, ground wire, and anything else connected to top of cover. NOt in that order
4. Take off, remove old gasket, careful not to let any of the old gasket break off and into the head.
5. Apply new gasket.
6. Repeat step three backwards.
25 mins max
YOu might even want to consider painting the valve cover while its off.

well if it only smells bad when you give it full throttle it would be the smell of the clutch burning from it slipping.

thats what i was thinking initially, cause oil would have a constant smell. for example this morning when i was driving normally, i didnt smell anything. last night when gunning it, i could smell it

Re: Strange Smell when accelerating.. (Acidcrakker)
sometimes when i give it full throttle i get overly excited and fart could that be it???
1. i would check for leaks (oil burning touching header or burning off engine would be a constant smell though)
2. clutch
3. did u happen to have had ur car tuned recently maybe A/F ratio off alittle ???
hope u get this fixed soon let us know details when you find something else out
