if your driving and it still shakes and you have done rotors and wheels then its your axles guranteed.

Even though the front will cause it to shake more having the rear rotors old and warped will still cause a shake while braking, bad axles and tires will cause it to all the time.

Hopefully I have the chance to change my rear disc rotor and put new brake pads on this weekend to see if it solve the shaking steering wheel problem...........If not then I probably have to replace the passenger axle as well.............I have not replaced my passenger axle ever since I got the car..........I let you guys know ASAP whenever I'm done changing all these parts......

With your vibration at higher speeds there is a good chance it was your wheel weights, you probably just threw one. Having your wheels and tires balanced will definitely help. However, it is not a cure-all, and neither is an alignment (although it is important for proper vehicle tracking and proper tire wear, and a very good diagnostic aid)

First you NEED to change the rotors/pads on the rear. Rear brakes may only do about 20% of the braking, but if they are damaged or excessively worn they can cause serious issues, including brake pull and brake vibration. MAKE SURE that when you do your brakes, that you lubricate the caliper slide bolts (the two bolts that attach your caliper to your caliper bracket, and don't grease the threads), replace any broken, missing or worn hardware such as pad retaining clips, lug studs, etc. and torque all your bolts to specs. The caliper slide bolts usually don't require much torque at all, since the caliper (if yours are floating type, i'll bet they are) needs to slide on those bolts, it has to be able to move. You should also throw some caliper grease on the backs of the pads and on the rubber slide bolt boots as well. Also, be SURE to torque your lug nuts!! Improperly torqued lug nuts can lead to rotor warpage. (you can buy caliper grease at any advanced auto, autozone or O'reilly's). Do NOT get grease on the rotor or pad friction surfaces, where the pads come into contact with the rotor. If you do, clean it off with brake cleaner immediately. Also remember that you should break in new pads and rotors by burnishing them; where you get up to a moderate speed (30-40mph) and come to a gradual and easy stop, then repeat about two more times. This gives the chance for the "glue" in the pads to bond properly, so you don't glaze up your pads.

Once that is done, and you have tried rotating your tires (and getting an alignment, if nothing else, it can help you locate your problem once all your angles are good), if you still have a problem it could be another brake-related issue, such as your ABS (kinda doubt it though) or it could actually be a steering and suspension component. You need to check for play in ball joints and tie rods, check your rack and pinion for any play or leaking in the bellows boot, and make sure none of your steering components (radius rod, control arm, etc.) are bent, missing or damaged. Also check your shocks for leakage and bounce test the car to make sure your shocks are good. Damaged steering/suspension components could be causing or contributing to your problem if it isn't the brakes or tires. Also remember that if you do end up replacing any steering/suspension component that you get an alignment afterwards.

I doubt that it is either wheel bearing or a busted half shaft (axle) because you would probably hear it (grinding or popping noises that seem to go around and around and get either louder or quieter as you turn) although that isn't always the case.

Hope this helps.

If his wheels had excessive amounts of runout (bent) they would be vibrating all the time, not just during braking.

hmm.. Check engine mounts, if they're bad they'll cause vibrations.

Alrite guys, update I replaced my passenger side axle this weekend.......the vibration from the steering wheel seem to go away.....but that steering wheel shaking when brake is press is still there.........whenever I step on the brake paddle my steering wheel shake badly.......while I was replacing my new axle to the passenger side.........I have also check for any fault play at the joint, inner and outer tide rod and wheel bearing and they all seem to be good......there wasn't any fault play at all.............Im starting to get irritate it............I don't know what is wrong with the car..............

Yes only shake when I step on the brake paddle (coming to a stop or sumthing) then the steering wheel shake.........once it on a roll the steering wheel doesn't seem to shake................I replaced my two front disc rotor like a month ago........From my understanding of the prelude I think all prelude come with disc brake on the front and rear right for the 4th gen and 5th gen.......????????? Correct me someone..........

I had the same exact problem and replaced everything you did..spent over $1000 in parts I did not need from people telling me to replace this / replace that..etc..

It turned out to be a rear drum was out of round. When it pulsed it passed the hydraulic pressure to the front , opposite side of the car. It made it seem like I had a bad rotor up front, but it was coming from the rear. The way to prove it is to pull up the emergency brake while going down the road...if you feel a vibration your problem is in the rear.

Hi Powhatan, No i haven't solve my steering wheel shaking problem when stepping on the brake paddle. I haven't changed my rear disc rotor and brake pads ever since i bought my car which is like 5 or 6 year now. Can this be the cause of the shaking when stepping on the brake??? I think all prelude comes with rear disc brake.....But anyway it appear that you figure out what the problem is? I will try to do it on my car to see if there any vibration. Thanks in Advance....

^ Why have you failed to do one of the simplest and cheapest troubleshooting steps? Seriously, you replaced an axle on a whim before you even checked your rear brakes? WTF?

It could be anything, mine has a little shake at 60mph and a little when i brake. when i upgraded my struts and springs i replaced all my other parts just cuz they looked old and worn who knows when the last time they were changed from the guy that owned it before me. i replaced all control arm, upper/lower balljoints, axles, inner/outer tierods, stabalizer links, wheel bearings, brakes, calipers and rotors, tried my stock rims and aftermarket ones with new tires, balanced and aligned and i still have that same issue. My only solution is that its something wrong in my rack and pinion..............so his problem could be anything. just gotta start replacing crap i guess.
