Squeeling belt?

Squeeling belt?
Everytime i start my lude i hear this belt just SCREAMING, sometimes it lasts 5-10 seconds, and other times it can last 1-2minutes. The belt looks new, no wear or tears. Is it loose or whats the problem? And if it IS loose, how do i tighten it?

ummm if you dont know how to tighten your belts then you might be in a little trouble..
P/S pump is the tensioner for that belt and the alternator is the tensioner for that belt..

I didn't say i don't know how it works, i know that usually you loosen the alternator and use a crowbar for a pivot and tighten it that way, it's just I'm new to the import scene, and somethings on imports are different than on muscle cars.

To tighten or loosen the alt belt... use a 14mm to loosen the top
Bolt/nut. Directly under the alt is a 12mm . I use a 1/4 ratchet on
A 2-3" extension. Break it loose and use your pry bar to tighten
It.
A trick my grandfather taught me was take a bar of soap
And rub the ribbed side as much as u can. Sometimes it
Stoped it for good and sometimes it stoped it for one day.

You should not have to use a pry bar to set the tension, at least not on the 5th gen and I highly doubt on any of them. There are bolts that will move the pulleys towards and away from the crank to decrease/increase tension so you can make incremental and predictable adjustments. If you can move the alternator or P/S pump with a prybar, there is something wrong.

Re: Squeeling belt?
i got a old jeep you use a pry-bar. i got a prelude you use wrenches and sockets. do you have alum pulleys? i have had this prob bad with new belts and used belts on alum pulleys. never heard of soap trick but my dad always used one very small finger pump of grease then rubbed random spots on the belt. mine is show car so i didn't want it flinging everywhere. i would not do it but the belts screeching was unbearable, i did it and it stopped immediately. dad said the grease got sticky and hooked up then, i dunno but it works and it most definitely is not spinning over the pulleys.

Re: Squeeling belt?
oh and if you tighten it feel the belt for tightness, it is easy to over tighten those adjusters, they actually work very well! all the bolts are easy to get to (one is hidden under the p/s pump if you are tightening it as well.

Yes. There is an adjuster on the end/ front of alt. You break the top and
Bottom loose and use a prybar or the adjustment bolt on the end of
The alt. It is easier to break both loose and set the tension to what you
Like. Tighten the top and bottom bolts back down. Then tighten the
Adjuster bolt. That's just the way I do it. I'm sure everyone does it there
Own way. Its whatever you prefer. I don't have that adjustment bolt so I
Use a pry bar and the top and bottom bolts.

Re: Squeeling belt?
once you tighten the main bolts down do not tighten the adjuster, you will not be adjusting anything that way, just bending the small adjuster screw so next time you go to spin it out it will be bent and or have the end of it all mashed up so it wont come out. tightening it the correct way is loosen, adjust, tighten, check tightness. dont use a prybar, use the method honda supplied you with, the tensioners work well and provide years of great adjustments.

Re: Squeeling belt?
Make sure your pulleys aren't bent inwards at all, one of mine was and it started to eat away at the belt. Eventually it started screaming at me too but I bent it back out and it was fine.
