Spun rod bearing?
There is a knock coming from the drivers side of my H23 and I think its a blown rod bearing. Is there anyway I can check if thats the problem? The car still runs and drives but I dont know for how long. And if the bearings are shot whats next to snap or go bad?
Wasnt there someone on here who wanted H23s with spun bearings?
Sorry about the noob questions just need to know what that knock is and if I need to order a new engine

I have the same
Don't have any metal pieces in the oil. But I think it's time to take a look at this, but for me it's rather at the top of the engine... My first thought was that the camshaft is a bit worn ia is ticking.
Does autotensioner make this kind of sound?

From what I think it sounds like its a knocking that increases with the rpms but I can hear the knocking more on the drivers side when rpms are from 1600-2100 for some reason. Its a knocking that DEFINATELY sounds bad, very bad...I got 277k+ on the motor just want to know whats wrong with my baby!

doesn't sound like a spun rod bearing to me, i've spun a couple in my time and they sound more like a a kak kak kak... type noise sounds to me like your connecting rod might have a crack in it and it is flexing thats what just happened to my 95 eg civic like a week ago on the 4th it ended up breaking at like 20 mph in 2nd gear and launching the lower half of the rod through the front of my block. to check this you would need to drop your oil pan and crank girdle , crank, and slide the piston low enough in the cylinder so that the rod hangs low enough to inspect unless you want top pull the head and take the whole piston out.

sounds like a spun bearing, h23s most of the time spin main bearings, but a knock that get less noticable after a certian rpm is usually a rob bearing.

are rod bearings easier to fix than the main? It makes the knock on the drivers side if that helps at all

well if your lucky and its not a main bearing, then the block will still be good, and your looking at a minimum of replacing the now bad rod, and having the crank machined, if not just replace the crank (probably easier) and then replace the bad rod, and install the bottom end with new bearings.

Re: Spun rod bearing?
It is most likely a spun rod bearing. I have the same problem with my 1994 Honda Prelude SI and it still drives but with increasing rpm the grinding noise/ rattle increases as I barely step on the gas. I'm just taking mine to the local Honda dealership to diagnose the issue thoroughly.
