hey ppls,

when i get in my car, i push the clutch in and my ignition is on... the music starts playing and all the lil lights come on in my dash... BUT the ****** engine won't start... i turn the key back and try again and voila, it works... this happens about every 1 out of 5 times i get into my car.... but today i had to try it about 10 times before it worked... btw, my car is a 2001 prelude base model, manual trans... please tell me this is nothing big... i dont' think its my battery cuz everything but the engine turns on... please help. thanks

does it even attempt to crank over?

could possibly be your starter maybe?

yea, ti doesn't even crank over... like after turing the key back and trying to start again about 2 or 3 times it starts...
my car is 64,000 miles 2001 prelude base manual... does this happen to any of you guys?

maybe main relay under dash close to fuse box --- usually happens on older model cars though

my 5th gen had an ignition switch recall. This was an actual recall so mine got replaced for free. I'm not sure what the exact recall was but i know it had something to do with the car shutting off/not starting. Maybe you'd wanna check into that?

i dont think his car wud be effected by the 5B0 recall (ignition switch) to me it sounds like this.... in hondas that come with factory immobilisers......im pretty sure yours does you can experience that problem from doing this too many times...............

you hop in ya car, try start him, then realise that the immobiliser has reactivated or is still on *oops* turn key back, push button, start car and off you go.

^^^^if you do that too much it runs an error code on your computer and the only way to fix it is clearing the codes ( im fairly sure ) and then because of this sometimes you cant start ur car even with your immobiliser off!

Shudnt cost too much and can only be done at a honda dealership.

v-technician, it seems like u have the best grasp of what the problem (or what i'm encountering) is... but this is my situation:

i won't be able to get to a dealer for another couple of weeks, and in the meanwhile i need to get to classes... do u all think that i will be able to get my engine to start though? even if this continues? i mean i dont' mind trying over and over... but will this problem COMPLETELY impair me from starting the engine???

same happens to me....i thnk its has to do with imobiliser thingy cuz i can turn the key for a few seconds and nothing will hapen, but then i turn it again after switch from on to off a couple of times and it starts
anyway if you find out what to do please let me know thx

same here, when i try to start it the green key light blinks and it wont let me. then i take the key out and try it again and most of the time it works

I used to have this problem with my 93 civic (200,000 miles). I had to wait in a parking lot a few minutes before I got it up and running. I did a full tune up and that seemed to fix my problem.

2001Prelude

v-technician hit the nail right on the head...I have a 2001 Prelude and I have the same problem you do....Next time it happens, look at your gauges and see if the "green key" is flashing...that is your immobilizer. Sometimes it takes just one try after it won't start, sometimes it takes 2 or 3 tries. I have never had an issue where it would not start though and have had no pattern to it doing this...My problem is totally random
