retrofit lense and shroud 4th gen questions
Sup everyone. I currently have Morimoto Mini H1 retros, with Volt ballasts and 5400k Morimoto bulbs, did em myself but quickly without research and now want to redo them the way I want them.
Paired with the jdm fogs and 3000k h3c bulbs, the lighting is looking better than ever. But I want to upgrade while I've got it apart. One of my high beam shields is sticky too. Compliments of the TRS B roll.
Here's how they look from "normal" view.
And up real close..
And at night...
What I'm doing is planning on selling these retrofits since I already have a new donor housing which has clear lenses vs the jdm lenses with lines, so..
My first question, has anybody used the depo/spring/etc clear lenses instead of the lined jdm ones to prevent light refraction esp from hids? It's a thought that occurred to me recently as I was planning it. I think I'd prefer the lined lenses, but want the best output.
Secondly, I don't know what to do about shrouds. Most shrouds are only 1.5" deep, so I'd need to block off the reflector housing. I could use the mini gatling or graphite, but they're not at all what I want. I'd like the E55r or Iris. Does anybody have any suggestions as to what I do? I'd most prefer to paint the halogen housing black and have a larger, cleaner smooth shroud run the full 2.5" to the back. Can I buy just any 2.5" shroud online and cut the clips? I hear the e46 shrouds work well?
My only quibble with any shrouds, even the ones I ike, is most if not all shrouds flare out in some way. Has anyone had good success making their own out of plastic or aluminum tubing basically to hide the projector but not offer the "bling" of a nice shroud.
I know ya'll got retros and dope shrouds and ideas. Hit me! Tia

I used the E55R in mine, and they really fill the housing. I blocked off the rest with aluminum plate covered in c/f look vinyl, and it came out well.
I will try to find a picture and post up.

Damn dude talk about a wish come true. I've been internally debating over whether the E55r shrouds were gonna look good or too big for 2 weeks. Lol. I couldn't picture them on the car. Yeah they take up alot of the housing, and the centric rings add space too. I read the specs and felt they'd be big. I also have a set of wings west eyelids that will touch off my updated retros. So I'd take that into consideration.
I could easily get away with simply painting the reflector housing given the size of the shrouds

Do u have a picture section, or one with the hood closed and both together from the front?
The narrow headlights look like they swallow up the bottom of the shroud. Droopy eyes lol
Ur retro looks really well done man. Props!! Nothin like HIDS YO. I also found as I mentioned above that HID can fit in oem bb foglights, which was a chore. The metal housing absorbs the heat very well, for a 5+ hour drive no issues. The bulbs are h3c, I'm not sure if all h3c are the same. But the fit was reallllllll tight. Had to slightly modify bulb base.
Yeah. If u got a linky to pics that'd be sweet
