I'm having trouble getting a front brake rotor off of my 92 prelude. I already drilled out the rusted/stripped screws, and sprayed everything with pb blaster. I've tried whacking it with a hammer, as well as heating it with a torch and then taking a hammer to the back of it. I tried using a bolt in the 2 off bolt holes (the ones i didn't drill out) but I believe the threads are stripped in there too and I just end up stripping any bolt I try to use. The only alternative I can think of is a gear puller, or continue trying to get it to budge with heat / hammer... Any other suggestions? Thanks in advance.

Well, with all the stuff you've done so far, you've probably damaged your wheel bearing. They don't take well to hammering. How big of a hammer have you tried?

did you try hammering from both sides of the rotor? back side and front side

Heat it up until it's red then dump ice water on it immediately...worth a try.

Yeah at this point I'm almost assuming I'm going to be replacing a wheel bearing. The rotor is shot to hell so I've just been using a regular nail hammer on it doing anything I can to get it removed from the car and replaced. Has anyone ever used a gear puller for this?

And yes I've tried hammering both the front and the back, and all around the hat in some hope of breaking it loose.

All that inside is just bunch of rust.. Just keep hammering them while you turn the rotors as well. I got mine off and to me a while for one rotor. Don't use heat that sounds scary.

did you try a 3/5 lbs sledge?

gear puller from craftsman/sears shouldnt cost that much if all else fails.

Use a bigger hammer. Especially if you are not worried about the bearing.

Guys this is really easy. Just get two 8 x 1.25 bolts and screw them into the 2 holes on the rotor. Not where the set screws go, the ones next to them. They will press against the hub and push your rotor off. If you have an impact it will take all of 30 seconds i promise.

Oops. Sorry I should try reading once in a while. Maybe if you have access to an air hammer you can go to town on it from the back. Its going to mess up your rotor but I assume you are getting new ones anyway.

BFH and turn the rotor as you hit the back...worked on my rusted *** rotors.

ok i know xactly what your dealing with. i took a wire brush on a grinder and took off all the dirt and rust off the hub. first i tried a file and it worked for the first one but it was hard to get around the wheel studs. i couldnt deal with that so i found a grinder and it slid right off with a slight bump from the back.

3 lb hammer will work. A small hammer won't. Have fun!

p.s. I don't know why people have probems with bearings after hammering? I never have!

Thanks for all the suggestions guys. I'm stopping to get a 4 or 5 lb sledge after work and I'll try that tonight. I think that'll work, I dunno what I was thinking using a nail hammer...

the only thing about that is when you hit one side it kinks up and then you hit the other side and does the same thing and wont get you anywhere. i think your still going to have problems. it may work with you but your going to have to hit both sides at the same time or pry on one side as you hit the other.

I Dissagree. ANYTHING with a big enough hammer(or as I call it the Persuader) comes off. Id be worried bout wrecking your balljoints and tie rods though once you start really coming onto it.

No ****.....some stuff just takes tons of force.Like the big *** spindle nut that holds ur wheel assembly on the axle.......I had to jump up and down on that with a braeker bar while my friend stood on the breaks,and I weigh 220,and is still barely came free after a 1/2 hour.

i would beat the hell out of it and just keep beating it until if fell apart i use a trusty 3lbs sledge and some man power

Total time spent trying to remove rotor prior to buying 3 lb sledge: 4-5 Hours
Total time spent trying to remove rotor after buying 3 lb sledge: 4-5 minutes.

And yeah i drilled the threads out of the screw holes so those are definitely not going back in
