Default Removing crank pulley

Ok i know this is a difficult task. I know about jamming the flywheel and then loosening the crank pulley nut. But i do not have a impact wrench setup. I was wondering if annyone came across easier way of doing this?

Get a big ******* breaker bar. I mean big.

the torque specs on it are as much as the whole engine puts out

Around 140 or 160 IIRC.

But when you put it back in, you need a torque wrench that actually goes that high, so make sure you got that too

dont vouch on me with the torque specs on the crank pulley. I don't have a helms handy. you would need to double check that.

That bitch is torqued to 181 ft lbs. Get the honda crank pulley holder tool+ 1/2 inch breaker-bar and a 4ft cheater bar. That's what i used.

This idea ftw

You can do without the honda tool if you have a good way of holding the flywheel.....next time do this before you yank the engine

I have done it several ways without "fancy dancy" tools.

1. if you have the oil pan off, jam a wooden rod (baseball bat?) into the rotating assembly, this will stop the engine from turning.

2. if you are putting a different crank pulley on, weld a giant bar to the face of it, you can hold that, or it will just turn and hit something

3. if you are putting a different crank pulley on, grab the crank pulley with a motorcycle chain style strap wrench, this is what I did the second time I took it off, you can brace the wrench on the ground if you like, but it will destroy the pulley.

4. put cyl #1 at TDC, remove the spark plug from cyl 2, fill it with oil, well like 95% full, leave enough air to screw the spark plug back in, then screw the spark plug back in and remove the crank bolt. this is the most badass way to do it, because it is one of those tricks you can say an "old indian" taught you.

old indians are full of tricks.

5. get a 1 foot breaker bar, get a 3lb hammer, hit it. hammering breaker bars is a good way to either break the head off of a bolt, or break a bolt loose. that bolt has a REALLY BIG head and its a good bolt, so you'll just break it loose.

6. put the car in reverse and have someone stand on the brakes, this will keep the engine from turning. reverse because if you expletive up reverse you can still kinda drive it.

I don't recommend you do any of this, they will all work, ***** mechanics (smart mechanics whose **** always work) or people who work on other people's cars wont do this either.

I just took mine to a local shop and they got it off with their impact pretty easily. Then I just tightened it with a regular breaker bar and it's been fine for years...it will tighten itself every time you drive.

I just welded a 50mm nut onto a piece of bar and made my own holding tool up
Makes the removal & installation of the pulley a breeze.
