i just put a h23 motor in my boys prelude. The motors completly in i prime the head and put the fuse back in for the fuel pump and go to start it. it just cranks so i check fuel has fuel check spark there no spark. there no spark coming from the coil to distrubutor. i put coil from old motor on the car. there is power going to coil and i changed out the main relay still nothing checked all the fuses etc. the coil and dist. came off the orignal motor in the car before we pulled it. it had spark the coil and dist worked fine but now nothing. can anyone tell me where to go from here im lost thanks
If you know that you are getting power to the coil but not beyond that my suggestion would be to go to the nearest parts store and buy a new coil and set of plug wires for the H23 that you just put in and install them. The wire set should come with a coil wire. So that solves the coil wire question also. Do you have a multi meter? check and see how much power is going to the coil, if any.
93 Prelude H22 swap
Turbo coming eventually
sounds to me like the coil may be bad. i know you said it worked before, but i've done the same thing before-- changed motors and car wouldn't start, ended up being the coil. make sure ALL grounds are secure (frame rail to engine, ecu to head under thermostat, driver's shocktower to valve cover/powersteering pump). They ALL are necessary. I've left the ground loose on the driver's side before and the car wouldn't crank. I'd try changing the coil if all the grounds are good, i don't think they are that expensive. If you accidently tried cranking the car with the coil plugged in without the coil plug wire being connected to the dizzy, that could have shot your coil. (maybe you checked compression in the motor with coil plugged in, but just took the plug wire loose instead of unplugging the coil altogether is what i'm saying).
alright i used external coil stil no spark so still unsure about coil
but there are 3 wires going to coil there positive neg and tach the positive lights up the negative i am told should surge when i connect test light to it and the key is in the on postion the test light filment just glows when i go to start it goes out
so where do i go from here all my grounds are connected the one from battery to tranny from shock tower to motor and under thermostat to fuse box (i was under assupmtion)
i used and external coil to see if it was the coil and still no spark i mentioned this and i know the external coil works and there is no surge in the ground to the coil so the coils not gunna work what cause it not to ground
ok.....i could be completely wrong here, but i don't think that a ground surges. A ground is GROUNDED. check the voltage coming from the thick yellow wire, you should be getting 12v (as you said you were). So, now that is out of the way, we know you are getting power to the coil....now we need to have the power get to the dizzy.
IF YOU HAVE POWER TO THE COIL, (AND THE COIL WORKS), THEN THE COIL WILL POWER THE SPARK TO THE DISTRIBUTOR.
The only thing that I see in this scenario (whether you like it or not, or agree or disagree) is that the coil is bad. It happens a lot, it's not uncommon, I've had it happen twice.
CHANGE THE COIL!!!
If it doesn't work then, come back and post and we'll trouble shoot some more, but till then, I believe that's your problem. If it's not, take the coil back to the store and get a refund- tell them you didn't need it after all. Then you are out nothing.
are you going to continue asking until you get an answer you like? have you even tried using a different coil yet? if not, then you shouldn't bother continuing to ask people on here for what your problem is. if you change the coil and it doesn't work, then you can come on here and laugh in my face and tell everyone how stupid i am and how you wasted 4 minutes of your life changing the coil.....so its a win-win situation if you change it.
read i used and external coil it still did not work its the same difference changing a coil and using and external coil next time why dont you read instead of trying to get on me i just want to know what to do so i can get him on the road
