Pep Boys Clutch Job as good as dealership?
Hey guys i need a new clutch on my 5th gen. I dont know what to do here. Honda quoted me like almost 1000 dollars and Pep Boys is saying 600. Should i trust Pep Boys and just go for the cheaper job. What would be the smartest choice. Thanks for any help im not a prelude pro.

It's up to you, I work at the dealer and have had people come from the pepboys down the road to get things done right but that doesn't mean the one by you wont do it right. Dealers cost more because they send their workers to school to learn how to specifically work on that line of car, part of the reason why it costs more and because they'll only use Honda genuine parts.

Ask PB if they will install your OEM parts, if yes, buy OEM and have them put in the parts and only charge you for the labor. Are they going to turn the flywheel, that also takes experience, are they going to replace all the external oil seals, ie: driveshafts and front seals. Are they going to replace the pivot ball that the throw out arm rides on. Are they going to replace the engine rear main seal. I bet the dealer wont even do all of this unless you ask them too. Flush the clutch (brake) fluid with all new fluid and change the gear lube in the tranny. You can do all of this on your own, get a buddy to help over the weekend, we will help too.

Do the clutch yourself......Its not that hard...When i first got my prelude i had to do it....I had no experience with preludes or h22s but me and a buddy handled it in 2 days...(taking our time)..Just make sure you have a couple days to spare (weekend or something) and save yourself at least $500
Everything will always be more expensive at the dealer, but they do warranty their work so that's a plus..

Is it a Base or SH? if you're are going to diy with an SH, have a backup car, it's not going to be a weekend job.

I agree or find your self a reputable shop around your area that has experience with hondas. Dealerships always over charge, and pep boy f*** them they gave me a hard time aligning my car because it was lowered I under stand why but they were dicks.
