i dont think many people actually weigh their cars after removing anything but i know some have. anyone that posts their weight should also post all thats been done to get to that weight. also whether its an auto or a manual because that makes quite a difference also

HOT DAM ray, that's insane,
I'm hoping to get mine to 2200lb with a 6-8pt cage
I wonder how much a lexan rear window would shave?

Damn that is light! My 4th gen is 2685, going off of a weight of 2905 with me in it, 4 years ago when I was 220. I weigh 235 right now, and another 25 for full nitrous bottle lol, so 2945 or so when I am at the track. I have this feeling my car would move up the 1/4 mile ladder a bit if it was 800 lbs lighter, like Rays car!

Ray if you dont mind spilling some tips, that'd be awesome.
Pirate i may contact you soon in testing out a DIY lithium battery like you did.
anybody ever weighed the rear glass on a 5th or 4th gen??

Blake if you can find a gas station where they have truck scales then u could weigh it

the side glass isnt very heavy..it was like 5lbs....but the window regulators/motors/door skins were like 20lbs a side for a total of 40lbs and the gas tank with all gas empty and filler neck/lines/fuel pump was 50lbs

i have darn near everything one could think of deleted lol...
it has a plastic race seat that weights only like 10lbs...no nothing no air bags/heat/blower/dash/pannells/radio completelly stripped all power windows are removed and locked in the up postition and all door and 1/4 pannel skins are cut out...i have a decent write up on pp.com that will copy and paste here if i can breaking down a decent gut for street cars..and approx target weights...i have had my lude for 8yrs now and have had anything from subs and a h23non vtect too a street strip gut too a race gut..the write up is decent..

my lude is for racing only...i have anthor car that is a street/strip/civil car a 1989mr2 sc that weights in at 2550lbs with me in it and mr2's are small so not much is taken out of it...she runs a 13.2@103mph on drag radials i rock everyday...so with a fun car like this it gave me the go ahead on makeing my lude as light as possible...it's going too gain some weigh when the cage goes in but i may be adding lexan around the same time as well....

It was 2370, now it's a bit lighter, so I havs no idea what it is now.... Probably 20-30lbs lighter
5th gen Prelude, SFWD trim
Need a carbon trunk and I need to ditch the factory side view mirrors.... Every little bit counts.
I will also add... this weight was with heavy *** factory rims on it.
This is with a cromoly cage and a 50lbs turbo, intercooler, etc, etc..

2475 lbs

This was with an OEM hood and trunk (now CF on both). Gutted track car, with a fairly extensive cage. IIRC, this was with 1/4 to 1/2 tank of gas, but no oil.

Weighed mine on a truck scale that wasn't extremely accurate, but it was 2700-2720lbs w/o driver.
No p/s, a/c, c-cntrl, cf hood, no spare, gutted trunk/back seat, 11lb wheels, removed airbag, tiny battery, flywheel/clutch......
I have a CF plug for it, would love to find a CF trunk......Going to remove the carpet, interior plastic, install lighter seats, ditch all ABS/SRS/Audio/Heater/Power Windows......but then add a cage. I really don't care about weight that much. I don't want it to be a Civic.....besides, we have H series motors B)
Ultimately going to be an Unlimited build for my enjoyment with no rules/classes in mind....
2700lbs w/ driver(215) with ~300whp is fine by me.

hey ray do you mind taking a pic of the your front interior from driver seat. I really am thinking of doing this if its possible. I would need to have front dash in but it could be gutted out. Also do you have any carbon fiber on the car at all

Default Re: Official Lightest Preludes List

here is a write up i started about 1year ago on pp.com...

weight reduction basic guide(targets)
i get alot of pm's reguarding my 4th gen weight..
thanks for postive comments and thanks for the negative ones as
well...

again this is very basic,, but has alot of thruth/theory too it as well
also remeber the lighter the car get's the more the balance it thrown off
im slowly learning this as i gain power....

weight reduction guide.....
we will start out by saying, use your head,,will removing this affect safety, will it be someting i need,
will it be something i want, how fast do i actually want too go have a basic goal. After you have answered those questions
you can get started.
Use your head most aftermarket parts weight less than stock parts
Starting again use your head, just start removing stuff no matter how small it is.Start in the back of the car because the worst place for
weight in a fwd car is in the back.

Back of the car removel(trunk).......
STREET
spare and jack
covers and pannels
basic brackets and bolts that aernt needed
antenna
cf trunk
rear bumper support(dont get rear ended)
STRIP
cut into the rear bumper(also allows wind to pass through)
remove fuel tank(install a fuel cell)
remove exhaust(all the hangers)
bulbs that are not needed(side markers)
remove all latch's and strikers(use hood pins in the rear)
cut all metal out that you can...be careful
wiring

Interior.......
STREET
remove back seats
remove back seat belts(dont let anyone sit in the back)
remove rear speakers(optional for street)
pull out the door pannels and remove all the sound dententing/insulation(re install)
remove all rear pannels(you need a decent ammount of weight shed to notice any difference)
on 4th gens that huge center console has too go 5th gens keep yours
radio(optional for the street)
front speakers
go under the dash if it isnt neede remove it(brackets insulation)
abs stuff relays that arent used

STRIP
remove carpet and headliner
seats(run light one)
seat belts(run a harness)
use dry ice to get all sound insulation removed(actually weights a decent ammount)
remove door pannels
remove pwr door locks and actuators
remove power window motors(drag cars can cant race w windows down)
remove all switchs for everything(everything turn singnals what ever)
remove dash
air bag crap(air bag ecu too)
remove guage cluster(everything)
remove all the crap not needed(there is a ton down there)
remove heater blower(hvac) no heater core
use cut off wheel again and go to town(be carefull)
remove sunroof(plug it or something, it weights alot)
have fuse block for only stuff you are using remove the rest
pwr mirrors(drag cars dont look back)street cars get lighter ones they weight a decent ammount

UNDERHOOD
STREET
all evap **** gone
battery braket
brackets and stupid stuff
a/c(decide all or none or it aint worth it)that means
compressor
condensor
lines
switches
dryer(everything or it aint worth it)
power steering(same thing get all the lines)
aftermarket stuff...allmost all are lighter
remove abs(optional but a good idea)get 2 it all even the abs ecu...
cf hood
front lip spoiler
sideskirts/mud flaps

STRIP
mostly aftermarket stuff
get rid of latches(run hood pins)
no front bumper support
no bulbs for head lights or only the ones you use(nit picky stuff adds up)
sensors you aint using(wiring too)
bs delete
get a lighter alternator(lighter braket too)
remove sway bars

that is a basic guide (improvise) take car all the way appart and get rid of stuff
AFTERMARKET STUFF
body pannells
battery
header
intake
intake manifold(some are feather light)
exhaust
rims
seats(or seat for drag car)
flywheele
pulleys
steering wheele
clutch
pistons
rods
throttle body
suspension
traction bar
mounts
again most aftermarket parts weight less no matter how small the weight reduction is....

this list is alot more than what is removed on my car...i belive if you went crazy on a 4th gen
you could get the car to weight in upper 1900lbs range w/o driver maybe someday i will find
out.....

estimated targets
STREET weight reduction done
3rd gen......2200-2400lbs
4th gen......2450-2650lbs
5th gen......2550-2750lbs
STRIP weight reduction done
3rg gen.....1800lbs-2050lbs
4th gen.....2000lbs-2250lbs
5th gen.....2150lbs-2350lbs

agin this is vauge and really only based on my own personal weight reduction data
and thesse weights are just the car...when you race you are in the car so the race weight
is the number above plus your fat *** in the car!!
if somebody w knowledge can post a better street weigh(and they may) i will update
same goes for strip cars(and they may be lighter)....
i have seen a reported 2350lbs weight turbo 5th gen on honda-tech that has a rool bar(witch add weight)
we will be weighting gc8dc95 turbo 3rd gen to have decent data for 3rd gen target weights
and if any 2nd gen's have weighted in w alot of gutting post up and i will add a 2nd gen target

That is the start of my list/guide....post whatever and if i like your idea i will update the list
i dont want specific parts like vis hood is lighter than siebon,,,,i want basic stuff....like
the list says be vauge...we dont spoon feed...the best way to find out is too do it your self
no two car weight excatally the same..

use this 1/4 mile hp calculator too estimate how much faster your car will get by removing weight...http://www.wallaceracing.com/et-hp-mph.php

flame or give me fame makes no difference too me i never complain!!!!!!!!!!!

yeah...its kinda a hard choice too make...if i didnt have the mr2sc for a fun car my lude was going too stay mostly full weight and turbo lol...cause turbo cars can make power weight isnt as much of an issue...but as you know all motor cars are usually very light
