noise when engaging clutch
I was driving yesterday and I noticed when I engaged the clutch in 1st gear theres a squealing noise like something is rubbing. (not any my belts cause its a different squealing) It only happens in 1st gear from a complete stop.
Does anybody know what this may be? Is my clutch going out?

Re: noise when engaging clutch (ECX)
Im thinking the sudden cold weather here in ca confused my car as its not used to anything around the 40's causing something to go out of whack, but i dont know.
Another thing is that when I engage(out) the clutch slowly(extremely slow) the sound doesn't come up. If I release it a little bit quicker(normal speed) it makes the squeaking/squealing sound.
Im just trying to figure out this annoying sound.

i second that, i have that humming noise when the clutch is engaged and the car is in neutral. 99.9 sure that its the throw out bearing

Anyone have any ideas on what mine is? Makes the noise while the clutch is not engaged, but when I push it in it goes away?
Very frustrating after just having this done.

yes, my issue exactly...not pushed in (engaged) = humming noise
pushed in (disengaged) = no humming noise
its your throw out bearing

I know what everybody is talking about with regards to the humming noise when the car is idling or when the clutch is pushed down and that is not what I am experiencing.
My issue is when I engage the car in 1st gear and start moving. There is a slight squeal when the car first starts moving and then disappears once I get going. It only happens in 1st gear.

In that case, I'm going to go shoot that ************ that just changed my clutch in the FACE when I see him.

Both, it's a humming noise (not sure about the high pitch part, only heard it from inside the car I haven't listened outside of the car...) and it sounds like a whirring noise as well.

Re: (ECX)
i'm actually having the EXACT same problem with my 5th gen, it makes the most horrid squeak/screech/chewbacca/nails on a chalkboard sound when letting the clutch out in 1st, it used to only happen when the car is cold but it's getting worse and now does it even when the car is warmed up sometimes, shifting through every gear is still fine though, i'm going to have Honda check it out, if i could get youtube to accept AVI files i'd take a quick vid or something for you guys to hear

This sounds exactly what my car is doing. It does it when I let it out in 1st, but its not all the time. Let us know what the problem is when you get it back.

Sounds like what mine does also.
Does it sound like it comes from the driver front tire area? Mine sounds like a mix between horrible belt squeel and metals rubbing together.
I'm finishing up changing my timing belt and manual tensioner swap so i'll let you guys know if it goes away.

i have the exact problem, i asked on here before and everyone told me it was my throw out bearing, i learned to drive it so it doesnt do it that often. doesnt it feel like when you here the noise your clutch starts slipping? im gonna assume its the TOB. anyways, like i said i learned to drive it so it doesnt do it so ill just wait til my clutch goes.

It's your throw out bearing for sure. I had the exact same problem on my 5th gen. a couple of months ago. I would disengage my clutch in 1st, and hear that whinning type of noise. I would only hear it in that gear!! I changed my clutch, flywheel, and of course the throw out bearing, and the noise was gone. I knew since the beginning it was the throw out bearing, but since I was changing my clutch and flywheel, I waited till then. You dont want to bring down your tranny just for a bearing!! If you haven't upgraded your clutch or flywheel, and your gonna change that bearing, THIS WILL BE THE TIME!!!

Don't change your throw out bearing. It's not a whining noise. It's a screeching noise.
After doing some driving, it's definetly still there so it's nothing to do with timing belt, auto tensioner or that general area.
After doing some thinking it might be the clutch disk. I'm not saying it's going out but it just might be the way it is. Brakes squeek and they're made of the same general material.
Isn't there a window on the tranny so you can see into the bell housing? You should be able to see if your clutch disk is low if there is a window. I'll probably check in a couple months once it warms up and i can pull the race car off the lift.

Re: (Blacktt7)
if you guys are referring to the noise i was talking about thats not a throw out bearing. My silver prelude had a bad tob and its not the same noise i get on my stage 2 I would say around the driver side area i have a whirring noise. cant really describe it very well.

Anyone figure what this noise may be?
It seems like it is getting worse the more I use it. I just haven't had the time to get it checked by a mechanic.
