Tranny wont shift while car is running. NEED HELP.
so i finally went to start my lude after about 9 months of letting it sit. i put a new clutch in it, along with a turbo kit. the funny thing is, is that it will shift when the car is off, but when i turn the car on and try to shift, it wont let me. whats up with that? btw the clutch is bled properly.

Let me ask you this, what happens if you put the car in first gear, push the clutch in, and then try to start it? </TD></TR></TABLE>
the car lunges forward. or in reverse...if the car is in reverse. so its like the clutch isnt in.
btw how can you install a clutch wrong?

you can put it in backwards, bleed your clutch line first though, it wont fit in verywell backwards, do you have the right TO bearing in? check your master and slave cylinders and all that good stuff, the reason you can shift when your car is off is because your tranny is not moving so your gears are able to mesh, when you turn your car on they dont because your clutch is not disengauging, get someone to push the clutch down and then someone else watch the hydraulic piston and see how far it moves

Sounds like you need to drop the tranny out again and double check the clutch, flywheel, and release bearing. No fun.

Not to sure about Preludes, but in my integra I did not make sure the rod on the salve that pushes against the release fork was on correctly therefore not releasing the clutch when you depress the pedal. Just a thought before you go taking the tranny apart.

This is exactly the issue I had with my car. But i had 156K miles on the original clutch.
It could be a warped clutch disk too.

What disk and what flywheel are you using? Sounds like either the TOB isn't pushing the pressure plate enough or you have too thick of a disk to use with that flywheel/pressure plate setup. Or it could be somethign warped like Andy said either the plate or the flywheel...

That's about when my origonal clutch went out too. I was surprised it lasted that long.

you gonna have to pull the tranny to make sure that a clutch disc spring didnt come loose, or a bolt isnt loose, or VERIFY that the clutch was put in correctly

i have a rps clutch with extreme pressure plate and 6 puck disc. they should go together like in the pic correct?
thats how i installed it. im pretty damn sure everything is installed correct with the clutch. its the TOB that im concerned about. the piston moves, in the slave cylinder so, maybe the fork isnt moving the TOB correctly. we checked it and the TOB moved freely.

I had the same thing happen to me, but the slave cylinder and clutch went out out the same time, so since you have a new clutch, it might be your slave cylinder. Are you sure the hydraulic lines were bled for air? That would be the easiest fix.

If the car won't shift while the engine is running, and it lurches on startup in gear if the pedal is pressed down, the clutch was installed wrong, or the hydraulics aren't working. Have you looked at the slave cylinder to see if it is moving when you press the pedal?

That means maybe you should take their advice up instead of waiting for some other who knows what advice.

yeah the slave cylinder is functioning properly. so where could i have messed up installing the clutch then?

Re: (killa_lude)
are you sure that the slave is moving enough to press the pressure plate enough? Are you sure that you connected the TOB correctly? Maybe the clutch release fork is bent? Are you using the stock flywheel? If so did you get it resurfaced??

well we can't seem to get a steady stream of fluid when bleeding the clutch. but the slave cylinder moves alot, how it should. we installed the TOB correctly...yeah im using the stock flywheel and its not resurfaced.

It could be a warped flywheel then...
Try shining a light in the little hole by the flywheel and have someone step on the clutch. See if you see it move at all in there...
With the car off, in gear will it roll at all when you press the clutch? (I doubt it would)
