Default My oil drain plug is stripped and can't get it off

My oil drain plug is stripped and I can't get it off, its the hex part that's stripped and I can't get a grip around it. Is there anyway I could get it off myself or anything? any solutions, I serached but all I can find is people saying that they stripped the threads not the hex. This is for a 5th gen Prelude Type SH.

If you plan on working on your car often in the future, I recommend the Craftsman bolt extractor set. It is designed to grip stripped bolts.

I have the set and it has come in handy MANY times!!

I hear screws have to be drilled out. Is this true?

seriously listen to the guy about the bolt extractor. i work for a shop here and we use them all the time for oil drain plugs... and then all u have to do is go to honda and buy a new plug shouldnt cost more than 6 dollars or so.

if u dont want to afford craftsman go get a rip off brand from napa, autozone, or advance auto they all carry them under 20$ and if u want just return when ur done & get ur money back saying it wasnt what u needed. itll work

edit: i think were talking about the same extractor here... its got reverse sharp groves and comes in sizes according to the bolt head size u tighten it on it digs into the head then u losen it off and the bolt comes with it...

Yeah get the bolt extractor set from Craftsman but if the car is your only ride get the new bolt first then get the old one off.

Dude, seriously. Get the Craftsman set. Doing anything else might damage the threads on the oil pan and then you will have to get a new oil pan, as much if not more than the cost of the extractor set.

Try prying on it with a screw driver while unscrewing it . I did that when i had that problem and it came out!

Then go buy you an oversized drain plug from like Oreilys or any autoparts store,So it can rethread the drain hold while screwing it in , then back it out and get rid of the metal shaving

just the bolt head is stripped no need to rethread the drain hole.

But if the threads get damaged when extracting the bolt, it'll need to be rethreaded.

a bolt extractor and a new bolt are all he needs unless he starts using hammers and chisels and screwdrivers or whatever ghetto methods some of you guys are suggesting and the threads will be fine.

I bought an extractor socket set from IRWIN (same people who make VISE-grips) that is designed for stripped/rusted bolts.

$14 at Autozone...Best thing I ever bought in my tools so far...except for maybe my vise grips.

It's an SH, ATTS is in the way of everything except an end wrench, which is why the head got stripped in the first place. There is no room to use the Craftsman exractor tools or even the extractor socket.

Use vice grips, clamp hard.
