Legal Hid color in Virginia
I have a 1998 prelude, and I drive in dark areas a lot, I was wondering what HID colors are legal in VA. I can't find it anywhere, I searched all over the web.

aftermarket HID kits are illegal throughout the country.
if you stick with a 4800k(white), 6000k (aqua), or 8000k (deep blue) kit you probably wont be bothered.

They are illegal but i used to use the phillips kit on my 2001 prelude with no problems. I was using the 6000k kit and it is whiteish purple. It looked real good and all i did was adjust the beam so it points down more to not blind any of the drivers, had alot better output than stock headlights

in reality you should be good with up to 5200k which is the equivalent of sunlight. I know that the cops around here, in baltimore, dont bother ppl with aftermarket HID kits cause they are not trained to know which cars come with them. Lincolns actually use a purpleish colored bulb so you can even get away with that in some cases.

Yea...i live in Blacksburg, VA and my friend with the 5th gen next to me got pulled over a month ago. He has a 5th gen with BMW retrofits. **** is bright but i find it to be acceptable. Thing is...in Virginia...if you dont have a Mustang...you arent liked by the police that much.

Wow thats strange.... I owned a prelude up until the end of 2003. I had a HID kit, the phillips 6000k kit for like a year and a half before that and i never ever had one problem with it what so ever. I assumed the cops thought preludes came stock with it. I also live in Northern Virginia where the cops tend to be real asses.

Technically, all HID modifications to a 1998 Prelude would be an illegal modification.
However, there is a state law that says that the main beams providing forward illumination must be white. In my experience, if you stick with simple installations that aren't too outlandish, and you stick with basically white lights in the 4300-5000K range, most police forces are simply going to have better things to do.
You'll probably also get past the state inspectors as long as the lights are white, the ballaststs don't take too long to come on, and you still have high beams.

I'm not really worried about the safe inspection, since my dad owns a shop and gets miracles done.

Be careful, there. If you get a ticket for something within a few days of the date on the pink ticket, there might be hell to pay.

Re: Legal Hid color in Virginia (George Knighton)
fix-it tickets in california are $10...but i got a fine for $90. So far I've only been pulled over once for these lights (8000k HIDs) within the 3 years of ownership. I unhooked the HIDs and turned on my high beams when I took it down to inspection, they thought those were my main headlight bulbs

Re: Legal Hid color in Virginia (PRELUDE-GT35R)
The best place to buy any HID kid. This is the only place i know of that sells Phillips kits.
http://www.xenondepot.com/
Go there people.
Any to reiterate my point to those that live in VA and that are scared of the police, i never had problems with the police and my HIDs. Just make sure you adjust them so they point more down and dont blind on coming drivers.
