jdm h22a gets hot, then getting cel 22 - help?
my car is a 93 prelude vtec. bought a 97 longblock jdm and swap my usdm intake manifold, tranny, exhaust over to jdm longblock and all plugs and connector fits fine. i notice the jdm doesnt have the thermo switch on the water outlet cover. the usdm water outlet has one, so i swapped that onto jdm head.
The major problem is when i start up to normal temp, vtec works until for a little while. Run about a couple of miles then vtec stop working and it cut off at 6500rpm and after 100mph, a check light comes on with a cel 22. Check the vtec oil pressure switch, all plugs are fine and clean. the engine gets really hot and i feel the valve cover. Outlet water hose are hot and inlet hose are hot also. what can this be? the meter temp shows normal. its not overheating. help and advice is appreicated. thank you

it's liekly not an overheating issue. If u're getting code 22 I assume ur using an obd1 ecu... The problem is that obd2 vtec engines do not have a vtec pressure valve. The ecu is looking for it but ur engine doesn't have it, thus the reason ur getting code 22. Ur ganna have to get an obd1 ecu, or search there might be some other way to trick the ecu to think it has a pressure switch.

im already using obd1 ecu. u mean i'll need an obd2 ecu? Shouldnt it be the same since all harness fits and everything plugs right up. I'll understand if i did some converison like wires, connector, etc..

I put a OBD2 F20B DOHC Vtec in my 1994 Prelude. If yours is like mine, there was a bolt on the vtec solenoid where the pressure switch is supposed to be, I just un-bolt it and put in the pressure switch, part number 37250-PR3-003 and if you want the o-ring its part number 91319-PR3-003. http://www.hondapartsunlimited...Irno= number 19 and 26. I hope this helps some.

Probably should of ask earlyer. Does your engine have the presure switch? Some motors have them some don't. If you have one it may need to be replaced. If there is a bolt where it is supposed to be then you will need to install one.

yeah before i did the swap. there wasnt any pressure switch connector on the jdm and i had to swap my usdm vtec soldonid over so i can plug the 2 pin connector. But if i leave that connector off, shouldnt a check light come on? the 97 jdm h22a has a bolt inside the pressure switch where it supposed to be. and i took that bolt off and replace it with the pressure switch i had. let me know if that was one of the reason. thanks

Since you installed the switch it should work fine. Have you tried to reset the ecu? Reseting the ecu may fix the problem. If not, you may have a faulty pressure switch. I also heard some people had a dented oil pan that didn't let oil get to the pressure switch. You may want to check that also.

i was wondering, if the oil pan is dented and won't let oil pass enough then why would it be running fine when warming up to normal temp.

ok problem solved. took out the oil pan and hammer with a wood to flatten it down, not perfect but enough to how it supposed to be. put it back on and vtec kicks everytime now even when hot. gosh it sucks to have a oil pan dented.
