Default JDM h22 vs. USDM h22 oil pump

I only found one thread concerning this but want to confirm.

I'm about to get an oil leak fixed on my JDM H22 and am undecided on what I should do. The leak is coming from behind the timing belt cover and the shop narrowed it down to the oil pump seal or crank seal.

Since they're going to open it up i'd like to replace the oil pump but ran across this thread concerning a fitment issue with the balancer shaft gear. Apparently this guy broke his JDM oil pump and had to order a USDM one and at the same time is trying to convert to a manual tensioner which is where the fitment issue stems. (see attached photo from thread)

I have the manual tensioner already installed and If I decide to have them put in a new pump a USDM pump will be ordered and I don't want to surprise them by running into this issue. On the quote they gave me they want to just reseal the oil pump and replace the crankseals.

other info: It's OBD1. It's the original oil pump. The JDM H22 was ordered from HMO and I've only put on about 45K miles on it since I installed it back in 2008. Along with fixing the oil leak they're replacing the timing belt, balancer belt, water pump and cam seals and maybe the oil pan gasket.

So question is: Should I just have them reuse and reseal oil pump or order a new USDM one and risk them running into problems which might end up costing me more $$ in labor? Or should this not be an issue at all?

Never heard of anyone having an issue with a usdm oil pump on an h22a. Perhaps he was given the wrong oil pump or maybe he was trying to use a 5th gen prelude oil pump which has a bigger crank.

Be that as it may, the oil pump will normally outlast the vehicle. Just get the oil pump gasket kit and reuse the existing pump like the mechanic wants to do.

yea, I was leaning toward just having them reuse the pump. They want to charge almost $300 just for the pump which I thought was ridiculous when I could get one from majestic for a little over $200. The owner said he would honor their labor warranty if the parts were honda parts and included a dealer parts warranty so i'm just going to have them order from majestic.

If you want to buy another pump that's your choice. It's your money.

I just seen the 97 has the same pump as the 92-96 but the 98+ is different so perhaps the wrong was ordered which would explain the fitment issues.
