Ok, so isn't that what makes an interference motor interfere? Valve to Piston contact? I'm only saying that because when my t-belt broke at 60mph, about 3500rpms, I had no Valve to Piston contact, at least none that did any damage.

Sometimes you get lucky, it's rare but sometimes it happens.
But yeah, interference means that if the cams and the crank aren't in sync, things will collide.
