Default Inner Tie Rod. Going to be replacing the weekend>Help

Ok...
I have the 95 Lude, I took it to the shop on Friday to get the camber and the alignment done. Well the shop told me that I have a bad inner tie rod, and that they cant do the work until its repaired...
The camber kit is already on the car..
The shop wanted 90 bux to install the inner tie rod on the passenger side... Well 90bux WTF!!! Little high for me.. I was thinking something like 30??
Any how I bought the inner tie rod... It looks straight forward.. to me????
However I was told by honda that I would need a special Honda tool to get to the inner tie rod...
Has anyone tried this befor????
I know the outer ones are cake, yet I have never tried to replace the inner... IS IT A BIOTCH to do????

oh ya... thats 90bux plus the 59.99 for the alignment!!!!

Yea man, its a PAIN. Just let them do it for 90 or shop around a bit, and buy te piece yourself. Special tool is not cool. Good luck.

at my shop we do 4 wheel alignments for 49.99 so 10 more isnt that bad.

Most shops work on what is called book time. They also have a shop rate say... 60 an hour. Now they have this big *** book which tells u how much time each install or repair is worth (this is where good mechanics and air tools come in to save time, which in turn makes them money). say book time on that rod is ohh... lets say an hour and 30 mins and he does it in 30 mins.. u are still gonna be charged 90 dollars (1.5 hours booktime @60 an hour).. see how that works?
find out what the shop rate is.. and lookup the booktime.

this is just how alot of shops run, mine included... if the mechanic takes 4 hours to do it... he lost money (least thats at our shop)

Thanx for the info. I will try to shop around, see if I can get a better price on the install...
Damn Honda....!!!
They make us have to pay to have our cars worked on!!! When really if there were no special-tools my car would hardly ever need to be taken to a shop..
So I guess it would be better to eat the labor charge... rather track down a snap-on guy and buy the tool, for like 100.00+
Thing that sucks is you are right!!! They are going to charge for like 1.5hours yet dude will have the work done in like 20mins.....

I changed my inner tie rod a few months ago and I was supposed to have a special tool, but I did it without it.
Just have a go, if you find you do need the tool afterall, put everything back and take it to a garage.

There was no special tool needed!!!!
The only thing that was on the tie rod was a locker bolt...to keep the tie rod rob backing out....!!!
YOU DONT NEED A SPECIAL TOOL!!!!
However,,, I was still screwed when I got it all apart!!!! I learned that the part that was sold to me had the wrong size threads!!!!
WTF!!!
how is a import parts place going to sell a tie rod with "standard size theads"!!for an import.
Ya, I tried to thread the damn thing in to the rack, and at that point is when I learned this ****!!
So I had to put the "shot" tie rod back in.....
Damn this sux...
I can't beleive I was going to PAY to have a shop do the install!! Way to easy!!

I've never worked on inner tie rods, but is it possible that the threads ARE in fact the right size, just backwards...to keep it from spinning apart while driving?
