Default how do i stop my prelude from burning oil

i have a 95 prelude si. now my car does not leak any oil what so ever, but it does burn oil, not that much about 1 quart every month or so. but i was wondering if there is something i can do to prevent my car from burning oil, or is this just how it is. i recently owned a 95 honda accord, before selling it to get my prelude (upgrade) and my accord did not leak or burn any oil at all, so any help will be appreciated. thank you.

Preventing a B-series or H-series Prelude from burning oil is pretty much impossible.

They burned oil new off the showroom floor. The owner's manual for VTEC models even commented on it.

Minor oil consumption doesn't really hurt anything as long as you keep the sump level topped off. Running the engine low on oil does damage it.

Not true, there is one guy on here who has successfully worked his engine in so it has no oil burning occurring.

I too burn about a quart a month in my H22a. Doesn't bother me much, but I would like to drop the amount a little.

Hey I own a 01 lude with a H22A4 and mine burns oil aswell. The only thing I have herd about fixing it is using a bit thicker oil or just keep whatever oil you are using topped up. I usually buy one or two extra quarts of oil when I do an oil change.

It will also burn more oil the more you hit Vtec.

Thicker oil, rebuild with iron sleeves, F-series swap...

You should not be having this problem with an H23. Most likely worn rings.

What saves an H23 from burning oil?

^ no vtec
I do not burn a drop of oil. At every oil change so far on my motor, it has been right up to the top mark. This car is also pretty much a track car only now too. Lots of hard driving.

I'm not sure how the VTEC system would burn oil, though?

It is not a way to stop it, but to slow it down use higher viscosity oil, and use conventional oil instead of synthetic because it is cheaper.

There are a few problems with H22's, the problem is severe in open-deck H22's as far as I can tell. Not nearly as bad in closed-deck.

1. In open-deck H22's the bores seem to distort after 6-70k miles, enough to cause oil consumption problems. The somewhat poor r/s ratio probably doesn't help. Honda changed the ring design in open-deck H22's, I'm guessing for the worse.

2. The pcv system is inadequate for H22's crank pressures.

^ FAIL.

Stock PCV is inadequate for H-series crank pressures, I agree. Upgrading to an Oil Catch-Can setup with drain back and deleting stock PCV would be most helpful in eliminating oil burning.

if you saw what was in a catch can , you probably would not want it draining back into your clean oil supply. I have had a catch can on mine for a little over a year and it looks like watered down oil when I drain it out which is every 3000 miles. It really does not collect a whole lot but my motor is all stock.

I was under the assumption that if the oil stays at the bottom of the can then it would turn into a gooey/water liquid due to mixing with oil + atmosphere air vapors , and if you let it drain back then it wouldn't have enough time to mix with other vapors and it should be fine to drain back.

That may be true I just don't wory about it too much because not much collects in there to begin with.
