Help! Broken lug nut on wheel!
Ok, so I have some Rota wheels with keyed lugnuts, and one of the nuts broke off at a point beyond where the key fits. I need to get the wheel off so I can change my brake pads. It's the rear wheel, for what it's worth.
Any ideas about getting the nut off? I've already tried drilling into it in multiple spots to try and weaken it enough that it might break, but it's not working. Any alternatives anyone can think of? I do have a set of stock wheels, so if I have to ruin this one to get it off, I'm willing.

What's it look like? Does the lock have round sides?
Go to a shop (or wheel shop) and get access to air tools. Hammer a socket you don't care about on there and zap it off with an impact gun.

Re: Help! Broken lug nut on wheel!
I think you have realistically 3 options, and a fourth option of destroying the wheel and stud with a torch.
option 1) drill/cut the lug nut until you can break the nut on the stud.
option 2) drill/cut the stud until you can break the stud off
option 3) If there is enough stud exposed to thread a lug nut on top of the broken one, you might be able to break the stud off at the base by overtorque-ing a nut on top of the broken stud and hope it shears off at the base to get your wheel free.
if all those fail, you're probably just gonna have to drill the stud until it crumbles.

If you're desperate and don't want to wreck the wheel you can get the control arm off, drop the hub/assembly off and then torch or grind the head off the stud from behind. Then just hammer it through. Pain in the *** with the brake rotor/wheel on but I think it's possible.
I remember doing it on one of my shitboxes to get a stripped stud off.

Re: Help! Broken lug nut on wheel!
ive spun a wheel stud on the rear once.
i removed the little metal hub cap to access the hub bolt.
then you just gotta remove the rear caliper and get that hub bolt off.
the hub, bearing, and wheel will all be together
grind off the back of the wheel stud and hammer it thru like the post above said

Internal spline type lugs are a ***** to remove if it shears, this is why you never use an impact gun on a security lug nut/bolt.
If you can find a large enough square/hex/star/tor drive you may be able to hammer it into the splines to grab.
Otherwise 5SpdH22 recomendation... nuke from orbit... its the only way to be sure...
