H22A4 vs H22A2 on a 98 Prelude
Need some advice. I just purchase 98 Prelude real cheap, but the current motor, H22A4 needs to be rebuilt because the timing belt busted. I just talked to a guy that has H22A2 motor which he'll sell to me for only $300, but he said the piston rings need to be replaced. What should I do?

If the timing belt came loose at most I see is some bent valves. Which would really only need a head swap/ or rebuild. Have you pulled the motor to see what actually is wrong with it?

I had a timing belt come off, one time, a long time ago, and that fucked the whole motor up

The H22A / H22A1 /H22A2 should all be ODB1.
So, all you need to do is take off your intake manifold, wiring harness, and sensors... and put them on the old engine.
You should also replace all of the seals.
I'll see if I can find the post from when I did this.
If you have an SH, then it's not so easy.

Thanks to all of you that responded. Here is the skinny. I almost have the head off, but while removing the CAMS I found that front CAM was grinding the top of the on the far left side of the motor. The timing belt was in one piece. So, I don't really know what went wrong. Maybe the crank shaft or the balancer went bad, but so far I know that I have to replace the CAMS.
