Got a compression test today and i got 130 across the board. From what ive read as long as numbers are within about 10% of each other its good but ive seen people saying the numbers should be around 180. Am i good or are these numbers low?

One reason that you want to pay more attention to the variance between cylinders, is the simple fact that testers are different, and will get different results. Also, heat of the engine, altitude etc are all factors.

If your engine is consistent and runs well, I would say no worries. I have seen healthy engines cover a range from 150 to 235 on my personal tester at my altitude, so 130 on a different tester is very plausible.

I had it done at a shop and i wasnt there at the time.

To my knowledge the engine was still warm and im in southern california so im not at any big elevation. It runs fine i just wanted to see what you guys had to say since the numbers looked lower than everyone elses.

numbers are numbers and gauges vary from one another.. Person A's gauge in location A displays 130psi doesn't necessarily mean Person B's gauge in location B that displays 130 psi is the same.

As long as all 4 cylinders are within a certain % range should be fine. (in your case)

If the test was done properly... the compression numbers are too low to support proper combustion. The factory service manual states a minimum compression value of 135 to support combustion. It is good that your deviation is non-existent, but the overall compression numbers need to be higher. Hold the throttle blade open and roll over 7-8 cycles... or until the gauge needle stops moving higher, whichever comes first.

it sounds to me like it's just the guage they used.

I did a test one day between a brand new snap-on guage, a used name brand (I forget which brand) guage, and a used parts store guage. I did 3 rounds rotating through them to triple check my results, but on a single cyl I got 130 on one guage, 145 on another, and 170 on the parts store guage. huuuuge difference, all just from the guage that was used.

I say your numbers are fine. if you dont burn much/any oil, and if the high and low numbers were less than 10% apart, I'd say it's healthy
