I turn the key and i can hear the relays clicking.
When my car died out on the freeway I immediately thought it was my Fuel Pump because I would get cranks until my battery died. While being pulled (towed), i tried to pop it in gear and let it start but throttle was killing it. Today, I unplugged the hose that runs from the fuel filter to the fuel rail. Turned the key and fuel is running through. Im wondering if maybe there isnt enough pressure being pushed by the pump??

Going to clean out the signal wire that plugs to the starter and hope i can get a cranking going since i've cleaned my battery terminals.

Ill be updating everything i've been doing to this car in hopes that someone knows what to do :s

Possible bad ignition switch.

American Honda Recalls Vehicles to Replace Ignition Switches - Honda.com

"American Honda Recalls Vehicles to Replace Ignition Switches
Certain 1997 to 2000 Honda and Acura Vehicles Affected
5/23/2002 7:01:39 PM
American Honda Motor Co., Inc. today announced a voluntary recall of certain Honda and Acura models to replace an ignition switch which may cause the engine to stall.

The recall involves about 1.3 million of certain 1997 to 2000 models of the Honda Accord, Civic, Prelude, CR-V and Odyssey. Also included in the recall are some 1999 Acura TL sedans and certain 1997 to 1999 CL coupes.

The situation is created by electrical contacts within the ignition switch that wear prematurely causing the switch to malfunction. An affected vehicle will likely experience difficulty in starting for a period of time prior to experiencing any engine stall. Normally, the vehicle can be restarted immediately.

Most customers will not experience problems with their ignition switch prior to repair -- less than 3/10ths of one percent of affected vehicles have experienced switch problems.

Owners of affected vehicles will be contacted by American Honda and asked to take their vehicle to an authorized dealer to be repaired free of charge. The repair involves the replacement of the electrical contact portion of the ignition switch while retaining the original lock and key assemblies.

Owners will be notified by mail when parts are available for their model. Because of the large number of vehicles involved, it may take several months to make the replacement parts available for all vehicles. Mailings will begin in June and should be completed by September.

Details regarding mailing dates and affected vehicles will be available on the Honda and Acura Web sites starting today. Owners will be able to access this information by registering at the "Owner Link" section of Honda.com: Official Site of American Honda Motor Co., Inc. or Acura.com ? Official Home of Acura Cars and SUVs and entering the 17-digit vehicle identification number found on their dash. Customers may also contact their Honda or Acura dealer with questions.

There have been no accidents or injuries reported to American Honda related to this issue."

I have the same thing going on, just after the rain it was fine but now its cold and doesn't start.
no luck yet. Got my starter to kick on. think it was the signal contact on the starter that was a bit corroded. I got a small piece of sandpaper to clean it up.

always!

so going back to the issue. what would be next to check? checked my main relay and it's clicking on the turn of the ignition like it's supposed to. Maybe no spark?

myk, since the starter kicks on, im going to assume the ignition switch is doing its job. could the ignition coil be fubar?

Thought I would post this here since I wasn't getting any response from another forum.

Code:
I'm having a pretty similar issue with my car, too. Instead of making a new thread, I thought I'll just post here.

My car is a '99 5 speed base. I'm the third owner and swapped in a remanufactured H22A4 2 years ago. There is an after market alarm and kill switch.

There are times when I am driving and the car will just randomly shut off. Sometimes I can start it back up with no problem. Other times, it will crank and sputter briefly, then die or it will start but then die again after about 10 seconds.

I replaced the ICM and it was doing fine for a couple of months, then it started again. I replaced the main relay?(The large grey box that is under the dash behind the cruise control, sunroof switch). This again solved the problem for a couple of months then the problem returned. I cleaned the coolant temperature sensor and replaced the thermostat to a stock one. And similar story. I also cleaned the IAC. Basically, whatever I do, it just seems to be a temporary fix.

More details:
- replaced distributor cap last year
- previous owner took it in for the ignition recall
- Problem started about 1.5 years ago(about 6 months after the swap)
- Battery is 2 years old
- Started is receiving power from battery
- Replaced fuel filter 2 years ago
- Replaced cat about 4 months ago
- EGR, IAC, and FITV passed Helm's manual test

My dad thinks it is fuel pump related, so he has some tests he wants to do.
I think it is ignition related. I check the after market alarm, wiring seems okay, but I can't really trace the kill switch because the wiring is a disaster.

Here's a few videos I took today when my car wouldn't start up in my school's parking lot. I was stuck for 2 hours until it finally stayed on.

This video shows how at times the car won't stay on. It starts up, then a fraction of a second later, it dies.

This video shows how it will go to accessory on, or off with a slight turn of the key.
**Note, this only happens when my car dies and I try to start it again. This doesn't happen any other time, to my knowledge.
This is what leads me to believe it might be ignition related.

This one shows how sometimes it will stay on, but only for a few seconds.
**Note, I am giving it a little gas to show that it still dies when holding down the accelerator. It usually idles between 650 - 700 RPM.

Just right now, my dad and I where messing around with the car again. Same problems occurs after letting the car sit for about 3 hours. My dad was able to get the car to stay on for a bit by stepping on the accelerator as soon as the car turns over. But as soon as we turn it off, then start it back up, it dies.

Let me know if more information is needed.

Thanks.
