H22a Missfire, all new ignition system
H22a JDM VTEC
Car is missfiring, Seems #2 and #4 cylinders are not firing, When I have the motor running I pulled each plug wire to hear a difference in rpms and # 2 and #4 made no difference!
I replaced the wires, checked the firing order, dizzy cap, rotor and Dizzy is brand new!
Plugs are brand new!
I don't know what else to check...
It's funny how 2 cylinders die at the same time. So im on the firing order trip.

Any cels? CEL should come up for missfires too.
Those cylinders might not be firing for two reasons. Fuel or spark (well could be more reasons)
If you think that they are getting spark than the next step I would think would be to check for fuel. Are the injectors squirting? Could test them.
You can test the spark at spark plug 2 and 4 by removing the boot from the plug, add a metal extension from the contact point in the boot and crank the car while you hold the metal a few centimeters from a grounded part of your block. Needless to say you need two people to do this test unless you get really creative. So as your partner cranks your just looking to see if there is spark from those cylinders. Read up how to do this test properly if you have to because it can be unsafe if you are unfamiliar with electrical.
Oh so this just happend out of the blue too? or did anything happen ie. some maintenance or anything that may have caused or happend around when you noticed this.

make sure the plug wire contacts are actually inside the dist cap and not jammed to the side. that happened to me one time with some cheapo wires.
and triple check that the wires are where they are supposed to be on the cap. if it worked before you replaced these parts you had to have installed something improperly.

This happended out of the blue.
Well first it missfired it was the plugs, Replaced them and car drove fine, then started missfiring again, Assumming it was the Wires this time due to brand new plugs I replaced the wires with NGK wires ( they were like 72 bux!) but very nice wires
And the missfire persist.......
pulled the cap and rotor to check if there wasnt anything out of norm, all looked ok and in tact ( they arent even 1000 miles old) The dizzy was replaced not even 1000 miles ago as well .

possibly fault CAS? I dont know a lot about hondas in general but the CAS has a 0* and 180* sensor. Id say it would be safe to assume the distributor might use some of the CAS info for firing pattern. If 2 and 4 are on one and 1 and 3 on the other it would make sense. I know we were having issues with a Prelude I was tuning with cutting out and found the CAS to be at fault.

do a compression test before you waste more money you need to know the mechanical condition of the cylinders. if you have a blown head gasket or internal damage no external parts will correct it.
FIY the NGK wire are not that good they normally break at the boot when you remove them after some time.

were the only codes for those 2 cylinders? i just had a misfire on cylinder1 along with a cyp sensor i believe it was called. i ran a bottle of injector cleaner, reset the ecu and the CEL went off. might want to check your injectors or egr ports as well. alot of misfires are due to egr ports.

egr have been Deleted, im not aware of any CELS. It's got a chipped p28 with h22 tune on it.
Didnt think about the injectors being a problem.

Re: H22a Missfire, all new ignition system
question about the egr delete. I also have the same mis fire problem but with all 4 and Im also getting the egr code. If I buy an egr delete will my cel still be on or do I get my ecu tuned to the delete?

Re: H22a Missfire, all new ignition system
are you getting back fires? If you are, then you have fuel but no spark in those cylinders. If not, then you may have an injector problem.
Check to make sure that the #2 and #4 wires are not switched on the diz.

check the head gasket for sure sine the cylinders are next to each other it have gone out. do a cylinder leakage test to see if its out but has something to do with the cylinders next to each other.

Re: H22a Missfire, all new ignition system
No back fires, just missfire or a motor that sounds like it is missfiring or running on 2 cylinders.
I am not getting an EGR code, I never said I was. I deleted EGR with a block off plate and bought a P28 and chipped it. ( p28's don't have EGR )
and how in the hell is Cyl 2 and 4 next to eachother? LMAO
I doubt its the head gasket.
