im building g23 turbo,if im not mistaken g23 use f23a head gasket right? i found that it is hard to find a good f23a head gasket for turbo,the thicker the better,and there's no f23 blockguard in ebay too.... please help me...thanks

sorry to get off subject but does anyone know how to tell the difference between a jdm h and a usdm h ? i have a h block to get rid of and wanna be sure its jdm before i sell any help is seriously appreciated

There will be a stamp on the left side of the block as u look at it in engine bay. If it says H22a it JDM, if is USDM or EDM it has a number added to the h22a part ie h22a4, h22a2, h22a7, etc. Oh and thanks it's a H22a Skunk2 mani :D

hey i am currently trying to do the same swap but im using an h23 non vtec head
i have a 97 accord with a f22b2.. i wanted to do the same swap as prelittlelude with a h22a1 ... but my car is obd2 and the h23a1 and the h22a1 are usually odb1 except for 96's ... i have a couple of questions
did you change your wiring for example use the h22 wiring harness?
or your stock modified harness??
would it be possible to use a h22a4 out of the 97's and up to comply with my wiring?
because i was looking at the plugs for my odb1 h23a1 distributor from a 95 and they have different plugs ... if i used the conversion wouldnt i still would have to plug those same plugs am i right??

Hey, new on the site here. (first post) But I have been following the G23 threads for a long while. Especially the work of Pirate and Prelittlelude. This thread seemed like the place for Q and A, sorry if its not.
Anyways, I currently have a G23 vtec build in progress for a 94 Prelude shell. I have an overbored F23a5 block with H22a4 pistons, and an H22a head which is currently being machined for .04" clearance to compensate for the piston clearing the deck.
I was wondering, does anyone have a basemap for something like this setup? I'm chipping my ecu with a xenocron kit. They say they can send a custom basemap chip, but when I emailed them my setup, I didn't get an email back. So I was wondering if anyone had any maps. I'm tuning with Crome Pro, and also have a dyno day planned for a final tune, just would be nice to have a basemap to work from if possible.
Also, has anyone conclusively tried using high lift cams in one of these setups without fly cutting the valve reliefs in the pistons? I never saw anyone post any conclusive data, and wondering if I should test this?

whats up H22a4delslow !! I hate I missed your question , I think I can help you out . as far as taking .04'' off the head plaining it No , The quinch pads in the head is what needs to be taken down . If you read PirateMcfreds 1st G23 build he explains it very well. Pirate is a really nice guy , I'm a newbie here too and he replied to me so If you still don't understand after reading his thread send him a line . I"ve got the same build going you do except I'm using H23 pistons so I don't have to worry about being outt the hole .04" So many say it can't be bored to 87mm I think it can . let me know how it runs, seriously !!!

I have the same setup h-22 head 98 f-23 block. My 94 h22 timing belt won't fit the f23 water pump or main crank pulleys. What to do? How did you work that problem out?
EDIT: Here is the semi-disappointing dyno... After a few fixes, a boost controller, and some more tuning I think the numbers will be alot more impressive...

As some of you know I spun the rod bearings in my H23 VTEC due to oil starvation and over-revving... So now I am taking my H22 head and putting it on an F23 block and boosting the hell out of it...
I got this F23a1 from sea friend who has had it in his garage forever...
This was the most recent pic I had of my H23 VTEC before I fooked it up...
Hear are a few pics of the tear down...
AEBS head studs that I will be re-using...
Tranny coming off...
I also looped my power steering lines this time around since I have been running with no belt for months...
It looks a lot cleaner with no power steering, cruise control, and no windshield washer fluid reservoir...
I haven't had a chance to weigh everything but I put it all in a bag and it has to weigh at least 20 lbs, and that doesn't even include the fluid you drain...
Head came off in like 5 seconds just like Pirate said...
This pic is supposed to show the block code, but you can't even see it cause the block is so worn...
2.3L Iron sleeved...97mm Stroke... Mmmmm.....
This is actually a picture of my H23 block with the F23 head gasket sitting on top just so you can see where the head isn't going to line up perfectly... Nothing a little Hondabond won't fix...
This is a comparison of the H22 water pipe(top) and the F23 water pipe(bottom)... Pirate was lucky that an F22 water pipe fit perfectly for him but when using an H22 head there aren't any water pipes that will bolt up... So I am going to cut them both in half and connect them with a rubber hose, no biggie...
This is a picture of the H22 alternator and AC brackets bolted to the F23 block... If you look at the alternator bracket you can see the it has 4 bolt holes while the F23 Bracket only had 3... However, it is interesting that when you bolt up the H22 Bracket there is a 4th hole that lines up perfectly but is not threaded because it was not intended to be using in an Accord... I could always tap the hole and use it but the three bolts will hold it just fine... But that just shows how similarly cast the F/H blocks were...
And this is the motor half assembled...
And the rear...
So I just need to put the tranny on the new motor and drop it in... Then it is time for the turbo install and to get it tuned on the dyno... They are having a dyno day at Titan Motorsports on Dec. 4th that I was planning on going to, but by the looks of things now I'm not gonna make it... But that's ok, I need to take my time and do things right anyways... More pics to come as the project progresses...

^All you had to do was read the 1st page, use the gear from an H22 water pump on the F23 pump and use the H22 lower timing gear.

Im in the process of building a g23. I just picked up a short f23a1 block for 50 bucks and i have a h23a vtec blue top with a spun bearing -__- ...im doing so much reasearch and still undecided if i should go n/a or turbo it.I want lots or power im a torque ***** lol
and btw your build inspired me i know you did it a few years back but how di ur g23 end up doing??

hi, Im also build a g23 vtec. I'm looking into getting arp rod bolts for my f23a1 rods. i heard people are saying that we can use the k20a3 rod bolts. Is this true and is there modification to use the k20a3 arp rod bolts.

When this thread was made in 2004... I just got my drivers license, and I was stuck with a POS Chevy Cavalier, but all I wanted was a f***ing honda. I'm ten years late to the game, but I made it finally haha.
