Default What's wrong with my farting exhaust?

well.. sorta. i got a new exhaust set up and now it pops like freakin rice krispeys! when i let go on the gas or when i lightly step on the throttle it makes a bubbling, popping sound.. almost sounds like backfiring.

the new exhaust setup i put on includes a DC 421 header, Crsound 2.5" cat, Tanabe Racing Medallion 60mm piping to a custom 2.5" axelback portion with HKS 60mm Carbon Ti muffler.

so how do i stop my exhaust from farting?

The only way to get rid of it completely, would be to upgrade your ECU to one that supports fuel cutoff on overrun. The popping sound is unburnt fuel in your exhaust igniting.

You may be running too rich, which tends to make things even worse.

I have to agree with the previous poster, I like the farting sounds too! lol

Yours does it without even trying? Mine does it if im barely touching the gas when decelerating from a higher RPM. I like it to, not sure about the neighbors though!

2.5" exhaust piping is going to do that, it's large

put on a silencer and restrict the flow if you want it to stop

ok wait.. so you guys are telling me that this farting sound is good.. performance wise speaking? (a good indicator that my exhaust is flowing freely?) if its a sign of unburnt fuel, wont that eventually start to gunk things up?

my car has the same popping when i let off the throttle at high rpms. i got 2.5 all the way back, N1 muffler and friggin 18 inch long 4 and half inch wide magnaflow resonater to get rid of the super rice fart can sound due to having no cat. little bit of pops wont hurt anything.

I've got the farts too, and it doesn't bother me. I wouldn't mind leaning her down a bit though, but yeah....

I noticed the same thing and have come to love the sound when rolling up to a stop light especally when its under a bridge or tunnel!! It's the sound of a healthy, free flowing engine.

i heard this is more prevalent in the "break-in" period of the exhaust. is this true or do people just get used to the sound?

The only time mine does it is when the engine is decelerating and changing from hi-cam to low-cam.

my buddy had a carsound cat on his old DA integra. Before he put it on, it sounded alright but while it was on his car, it made the same noise you described. It was annoying so he sold it for an s14 240 with an sr20det... that's neither here nor there though.
