Re: F22b2 block+H22a1 head, F22 VTEC, F22B/VTEC
in need of some major help
this is my first g-series type motor so any stupid questions give me a break
its a f22b2 block with a h23 head
not sure exactly on the head thats what the previous owner told me
but my problem is the head gasket is blown or leaking around timing belt area
i have read thats a tricky spot
i wanna know what i need to do to get the leak stopped? new head gasket? if so which one?
reply or pm whichever
thanks

Ok. I tried to read the whole thread and did not make it very far... This thing is huge. 81 pages... wow.
I have some questions that I am sure have already been answered but I can spend days reading through all of this in my spare time. I need my car this weekend.. lol. I have the money to get the job done but I need some info... I have a 95 accord EX and I have no engine in it right now. I have the original F22b1 block but the head is gone. Now I have a 2001 prelude head and I am trying to get this to work.
Can the h22 head be bolted to the f22 block with f22 pistons with no internal work or machining?
And! will it run fine with the stock 95 accord f22 ECM and wiring harness?

You don't want to take the time to read but you expect someone to take their time and spoon feed the information for you.....
I'll answer your two questions
1. yes it will bolt on without doing internal work. However, your compression will be lower than the stock F22B1's 8.8:1. IIRC it is around 8.4:1 = loss of power. You need to plug an oil port and you will also have timing issues. That is unless you match up all of your drive gears or match your belt tooth count to your gear center to center measurement. I'm not sold on the fact that you need to swap the water pump gear though. IIRC the timing belt issue was covered in this thread.....
2. Run fine...what do you consider fine? It will probably run but it will be far from optimum. P0A VTEC cam crossover with H22 VTEC cams..... Think about it!
IMO, the people who get this hybrid build running efficiently spend the time and money to do it properly. It's not a swap that you can just drop on the head and go. Hence why there are 50+ pages to this thread.

Re: (biglew)what kind of clay do you use becouse i just did a g22 f22 block h22 head
nope, this is with a f22b2 block out of an 1996 accord i found in the junkyard, i got a nasty good deal on it, with on 60k miles on it.
my AEBS head studs came today which is nice, now im just waiting for the head gasket and time to re assemble.
the f22 has the same crank and rods as the h23, just a smaller bore of 85, the cyclinders are also cast iron. if all goes well i wouldn't see any reason why you couldn't over bore to 86mm, or even just change the pistons to reach you desired compresion ratio. i went with the 50 dollar route to get me to 9:1 , because i didn't want to mess with the bottom end,
i guess also you could put h22 crank and rods in a f22 block, and run your choice of forged pistons and put the h22 head on...
this is all speculation of course, but i have clayed and assembled/disassembled the motor to be several times, so this isn't just theory, its fact, ive been playing with it for a month or 2 now,

Re: The cats out of the bag: F22b2 block+H22a1 head
Hi, I want to do a swap like you've done with yours, I've got an F22B DOCH motor but want to put the vtec head onto it, will any of the vtec heads match up with the F22B block or is it a specific head that will match up?
Cheers

Re: F22b2 block+H22a1 head, F22 VTEC, F22B/VTEC
About 3 years ago I was running my turbo setup at the track (not hooking up but trapping 110mph) and one run i money shifted 3rd to 2nd and the motor hit probably 12,000 rpm. I bent all 8 exhaust valves, got towed home
So i ripped the head off rebuilt it. I did notice that oil presure was down 3 or 4 PSI at idle, but everything sounded good and I ran it for another 2 years until I started hearing a slight rapping in the bottom end.
In hind sight probably what happened is when i over reved the motor 3 years ago the rod bolts stretched lossening up clearences, eventually the lower oil preusre took its toll.
With the car still running i decided the noise was too much and tore the motor down. All mains were spun and the rod bearings were in tough shape,
The block, crank, and rods were all junk. Pretty good for a 150$ junkyard block! Never broke a ring landing and put more miles on it than I can count
As of right now, I have another F22/H22 in the car, and redoing the turbo setup,

Hi so I have a 96 Honda Accord f22b2 and I've been thinking about hooking it up mechanically for better performance and was wondering if this would be a good way to approach this future build
