ECU replacement and immobilizer system
If the ECU is replaced on a SH prelude, do you have to purchase new keys due to the immobilizer system? Or is the immobilizer system separate from the ECU?
No guesses please, I need to know for sure before I spend the money on a new ECU. Thanks

Re: ECU replacement and immobilizer system
Well I found my answer in the manual. Page 23-198 says all 3 items, the key, control unit , and ECU must have the same codes

Re: ECU replacement and immobilizer system
you can in fact remove the immobilizer board. above it is the rectangular board protruding from your ecu. fold it back and forth till it brakes off (or desolder it), it will throw immo code P1607
here is the help thread to another prelude owner.
immobilizer cars are an ECU/ Keyd pair.

Re: ECU replacement and immobilizer system
Tried it, there is only one circuit board that looks similar in my 01 prelude ecu to the picture. Ripped it off and still no go.
If only it was that easy to steal honda cars.

And btw, that's not a US prelude ecu's IMMO board shown in that photo. 97-01 preludes have a 10-pin IMMO board, not 12.
Prelude ecu's need a replacement IMMO chip in order to bypass. Hit me up if you need this service

Re: ECU replacement and immobilizer system
That is an Accord V6 ecu.
the same immobilizer is on Integras, Accord V6, RSX and i am betting anything else with the K, J, Or B series Motor with immobilizers.
Now the only way to bypass or disable the immobilizer on the ecu is to solder in a dummy chip that does not recognize the conector and bypass the immobilizer control unit. If you only remove the ecu OR immobilizer control unit then it will disable the injectors and ignition.
replacing the ECU AND removing the immobilizer control unit is the best way to bypass the immobilizer. once you remove the Chip (it will look verry similar to the pic above) you must remove the immobilizer control unit
**Below is that to do if you have lost your immobilizer enabled key on 5th gen Preludes**
You will need to retrieve the immobilizer control unit from under the dash and take it to your local Honda dealer. They will read the serial number and give you the brake code that will disable the immobilizer until 10 minutes after you turn the car off.
Insert key and turn to the II/ON position. Enter the first digit of the code (you will be entering the code via the brake pedal ( if the digit is a 5 then you will press the pedal 5 times)) then turn the key to the OFF position then turn the key back to the II/ON position and enter in the second digit. Repeat until you've entered the 5th digit, taking no more than 30 seconds per digit. At this point, the immobilizer light should blink 5 times. Once this happens, you can start the car, and drive. If you shut off the car, you have 10 minutes to re-start the car before you have to re-enter the brake code.
I know some immobilizer control units require the code to be entered by the ebrake. this is not the exact answer your looking for which i know.

Yes A0/FX01 are all that are available to date.
I have aftermarket FX01 boards that totally works fine on P5M/P5P/P5J ecu's; bypasses the IMMO system, no constant CEL, and is OBD2 scanner tool friendly.

Re: ECU replacement and immobilizer system
That makes no sense. How does the original work then?
And if you can read a wiring diagram, the immobilizer takes about 15 seconds to bypass.

Re: ECU replacement and immobilizer system
US 97-01 preludes are immune to this chip removal trick. This only works for US 00-01 integra ecu's, yet you will still have a constant CEL on.

Re: ECU replacement and immobilizer system
recently had keys stolen in a attempted car theft..luckily was on vacation and had my car disable sadly the person kept my only master key. and i never had a learner key to rekey a replacement. would this immobilizer removal work. for just using a non transponder matched key.

Re: ECU replacement and immobilizer system
HA Motorsports offers immobilizer removal on P5M ECU's:
Honda / Acura ECU Immobilizer Removal Service | HA Motorsports
Should be all that is needed. If you just rip the board off the ECU the car still won't start on Prelude's.
