E85 Prelude????
so i searched.... i see that we have a lude pushing 500+ whp on E85 gas......
my question that i could not find by searching is:
what is the advantage to using E85. does it burn hotter? more efficient? compress better? Will a prelude run it fine without any additional modifications?
im currious because i have 2 gas stations within a mile of me, one has racing gas and the other has E85........

It burns leaner, it has a higher octane content, it is cheaper than gasoline. You can run more timing on the fuel which in returns yields a higher hp/tq gain.
However it is consumed 30-40% faster than gasoline. Don't even think about running this on a stock ECU. It needs a completely different tune.

well, its about 10% cheaper than Gas.... but if you use 30%-40% more, is it really cheaper in the long run? i also see that it takes more oil to refine and create E85 than would have been used to creater the same amount of traditional gasoline.....
thanks for the link though..... i need to stop searching prelude specific......

Increased use of e85 will decrease demand for gasoline, which should lower the price of gasoline, which will lower the price of the 15% of e85 that is gasoline, in turn lowering the price of e85
LOL
It burns cleaner also.
You can buy kits to make e85 at home I believe, which would pay off in no time.

So wait we can run this on stock Preludes just by retuning the ECU? Is that the same for all cars? I guess I mean to ask if there is any extra parts you'd need as well? Or is it just that easy?

i dont think so.... is a tree hugger anti oil thing......
i would assume urban and mass populated areas before rural areas where race tracks tend to be.......

if i'm not mistaken, converting to ethanol makes you smog exempt no? as i'm aware, some people have done this to imported vehicles to fly under the radar

Re: (Televator)
The problem is you have big time power oil companies making to much money to allow this to go wide spread. But they could always convert over. Is there a website or something that you could go a see where the nearest e85 station would be where you live?

Re: (92blkJDMh22)
they offer kits to creat your own e85 at home? aside from how much the kit would cost, im assuming that by you saying it'd pay off in no time, that creating the same amount of e85 to run your car would be cheaper right? now will it still be cheaper to create your own even though it does burn 30-40% faster? meaning you'd have to create that much more to run your car for the same amount of time? sorry if that was a bit confusing. how about some figures? anyone know the avg cost of a gallon of e85, or to create a gallon at home? this is very intriguing. i had no idea we could convert so easily.

i think he is confused with a bio-deisel conversion kit for a car/truck that lets you run off vegitable oil.... those are cheap and easy to do.....

E85 is a great fuel..We've been playing with it for the last year .we've run it on the stock ecus with fuel regulators and afc changes..for
exaple we have a civic wagon stock ecu stock 1.6 with a neo we had to give it plus 27 to 30% more fuel his mileage went from 36mpg to 30mpg on big power change the injectors but we've gotten by with the day to day stock cars...E85 is non-corrosive it is often confused with the properties of methanol which is very corrosive..you can use all the stock stuff no problem..Gregs car is awesome the e85 burns cool enough detonations kept in check and
its cheap at the pump...i hope this helps

exactly. I love E85. i would recomend it to anybody looking for a cheaper alternative to race fuel. Can run more timing then regular pump gas. We didnt change anything in the fuel system. Just the normal stuf. (injectors, pump, rail ect)

It's called an alcohol still, I don't think it took millions of dollars for people to make moonshine back in the day. There are kits you can buy and it's relatively easy.

i researched that a bit more and i see that you can do it with a moonshine kit.... but i would not feel safe mixing everclear with gas and putting it in my car without lots of expensive equipment for good Quality Controll........
