Ehh, that doesn't sound normal. Check your clearances again. Gotta make sure the screw doesn't turn when you tighten the nut to lock it.

Re: DIY: H22A VALVE ADJUSTMENT
I just finished a valve job, thanks to this good info. Guess u forget things over the years, haha.
Though I haven't put the valve cover back on yet. I did the job; hand-tightened down all the lock nuts while holding the screw steady, but do not remember how I torqued them to 14ft-lbs without moving the screw. Or was it once the lock nuts are hand-tightened, I can torque them from there without the screw moving?

One of those but honestly just getting it tight by hand will be fine, 14lb-ft is very small and I've yet to see anyone strip or break the adjustment screw by just hand tightening it.
You also need to recheck measurement after tightening, it pulls the adjuster up making the gap bigger. I tend to adjust it to have a lot of drag then tighten the screw and it tends to be perfect. To know perfect is to set a micrometer to the gauges thickness, lock it and put the gauge into the micrometer to know the right amount of drag.

Too tight and you lose the thin layer of oil trying to cool things off as well, to loose and you lose lift and it is making over excessive hard tapping contact resulting in parts being worn at a faster rate.
