I recently done mine, made it som much easier as the engine is out of the car hehe!
Being a mechanic i have the Snap On Tool, and its a godsend. But for you backyarders unless your a tool freak like me or can justify it,just go ghetto, you only will use it once in a blue moon.
heres my tool (ooerr missus)
and engine, nearly ready to go back in!

Re: (skinnyboy)
I just picked up that Alltrade tool pictured above and am about to check the valve adjustment.
But I have a question - if you adjust too tight will it result in increased noise?

I have a question too, I haven't done any valve adjustments at all the past 70,000 miles. How do you know you need a valve adjustment? If the engine sounds like a diesel engine, does that mean I need to adjust the valves?
Also in the manual it says:
"after adjusting, retorque the crankshaft pully bolt to 220 N-m (22.0 kg-m, 159lb-ft)"
so to retorque the bolt, do I just turn it clockwise to retorque it?
Also what are the torque specs for the Valve cover bolts?
And are these the correct feeler gauges used for the adjustment?
Which valve adjustment tool should I use?
this one
or this one

yes to the feeler gauges, yes to the first valve adjustment tool and yes to the second valve adjustment tool. I have the first one and it works great. Just make sure its for 10mm nuts.

The one with the red handle. It was easy but took me a couple times to get it perfect.
I made mine on the very tight side, it was the only way to get all the tapping noise out.

The helm manual has pretty good descriptions and illustrations. All you're doing is adjusting a screw and lock nut for each valve. If this seems too daunting, have a friend come over and help.

Re: (skinnyboy)
You don't want to run any tollerances outside of the values given for exhaust and intake valves. Too tight will not allow valves to open enough as far as I can understand. Withen spec is always the way to go.

Re: DIY: H22A VALVE ADJUSTMENT
can it ever be too late to do the adjustment? I've had my Jdm H in for two ears exactly now and never done one, i kinda hear small rattling noises but then they go away.

Re: DIY: H22A VALVE ADJUSTMENT
so you basically loosen the locknut, set the gauge(.06-.07) between the camhaft and rockers and tighten/loosen the flathead screw until it "clamps" the feeler and lock it?
