Coolant leak in (2) places...
As I was filling up the coolant system, (2) leaks appeared. One under the thermo casing (where the water pipe enters) and the other leak seems to be coming from a drain plug(?)...the plug leak is coming from the block....not the heater draing plug by the oil filter, this plug is lower in the corner of the rear of the block (closer to the crank pulley) the plug is on there pretty tight, so not sure why it is leaking, but can try to figure that out easier than this:
the other leak is coming from under the thermo casing, and everything was torqued correctly and there is no leak coming from the other end of the water pipe (the water pump end)....and I also used new rubber gaskets and made sure they were on before I assembled. any ideas?
This (and my axle issue) are the only things holding me up at this point.....if I can just get these last two things wrapped up then my swap will be done.

anyone else out there ever had this issue? almost as if the water pipe is slightly smaller than it should be to securely fit into the thermo...

Re: Coolant leak in (NoVALude)
come on.... ok, if no one has had this issue, then anyone have any suggestions? Obviously I am going to have to take the thermostat cover off of the head to see what the deal is.
Should I put some permatex or something around the rubber gasket to seal it up better?

Well I can't really help you out, but here's some pictures. Let me know if I should change them, I used the 93 vtec model.

Re: Coolant leak in (Jagan'92)
Thanks for the pics, but I found out the issue. The damn o-rings that fit on the end of the water pipe do not seem to be big enough. In other words, the o-ring is supposed to seal around inside the thermostat casing and water pump, but looking at them both, there is no way that the o-ring is thick enough. It does not even come close to fitting snug..the water pip slides out of the thermostat really easily. Almost a 1/8" gap around the end of the water pipe, so the coolant was just leaking out....
I verified the part number on honda-parts.net just to make sure that I did not order the wrong part, or confuse it with a different year Prelude. My chassis is a 92, but the block is from a 99 Base. According to the part site the o-rings are the same size for the H22 and the H23 from 92-up.
I am at my wit's end because I could have been breaking in the engine right now, but instead I am being held up by 2 damn rubber o-rings. I went to (3) different auto part stores and no one had an o-ring that was thicker. ****, I even went to Home Depot to try and find something and still no luck
91314 - pr7 - AA0 O-ring 37.2X4.25 (how do I measure?.....4.25 is diameter and 37.2 is circumference?)
Should I take a chance and order another set from the dealer? should I take off the thermostat casing and take to a dealer? thermostat casing is brand new and also verified the part #.
Any ideas or suggestions?

Ok, I finally re-ordered the 2 o-ring gaskets for the water pipe. Picked them up yesterday and what do ya know....? Other place sent me the wrong gasjet, because the new ones are much bigger.

Re: Coolant leak in (mr_carman007)
Ok, to bring a semi-dead thread back to life....
I picked up the Lude today....finally gave in and took it to a shop to fine tune the last litte bit to complete the swap.
Got the car running finally, but the downpipe was about 12" too short to reach the cat.....
so, got my car back, but the damn thing is so loud that I did not want to chance driving it...plus, when I would let off the gas, pretty sure air was being sukced back to the engine.....almost cut out each time.....and of course I called a few shops in the area who do custom exhaust work and no one can get to it til Monday......
Clutch feels good and belts look good as well, just damn exhaust is SO LOUD!!! So, looks like Monday I get the car back for good.

Re: Coolant leak in (NoVALude)
Finally got the car back today....(again) in good running shape. Exhaust leak was fixed and the Lude runs like a champ!
Mechanic mentioned that my adj. FPR does not seem to be working....so every once in a while when throttling, the engine hesitstes and then kicks back in. So I am going to put the stock FPR back on to see if that works. Also, my old O2 sensor would not budge from the H23 downpipe, so I have a plug where the sensor should be.
Could the O2 sensor also be messing with the throttle?

Thanks for keeping us posted, and I'm glad the lude is coming along. To answer your question, yes I think the O2 can cause the problem you described if it is not hooked up.

Re: Coolant leak in (flyrod)
Just sucks that I can't afford an O2 sensor until 2 weeks from now!
Other than the hesitation and my speedo not working, she runs like a champ. Without VTEC, engine feels much stronger and sounds much better than the old H23. Once I get the speedo working again, I will have get to experience VTEC for the first time.

i know it was a few weeks ago, but the problem was h22 and h23 orings are not the same, on the water pump end the orings for both the h22 and h23 are 37.2x4.25, but on the thermo end, the h22 is also 37.2x4.25 however the h23 is 31.2X4.1, since the ring you got was too big for the thermo side of the water pipe, im guessing the h23 water pipe was reused when the 99 h22a4 was swapped in, because of this, two 37.2x4.25 orings were ordered as you probably ordered based on what an h22 calls for, but you really needed 1 37.2x4.25 and 1 31.2X4.1 because the water pipe is an h23....
