Default CD player needs code after battery reset, any suggestions?

alright so this ties in with the ABS thing, sort of, but it's really a simple and annoying fix. after resetting the ECU to see if that helped turn off the ABS light, the CD player needs a security code. i could try calling the original owner and see if he or his wife knows it, but even if they didn't, i wouldn't know how to input it. any help? will i have to honda dealership this one? thanks.

Ok, in your owners manual there should be a section on the radio code.
Mine had a little credit card shaped paper that had the code on it.
Not sure on the rest of the details but it fully explains it in the manual.

it's a number code that is inserted by using the preset numbers on the radio when it is on...find the code, turn on the radio, punch in code...

btw, since you dont have the manual, if you have the "red key" - do not stick it in the ignition

Sounds like your screwed, happend to me and I called old owner, he knew it off the top of his head, then wrote it in the front of the manual, (it didnt have the code in it)
If i were you Id call the person who owned the car before you, if they dont know it, time for an Alpine head unit

This happens to me every single time i unplug my battery. However, there's a quick and simple solution to solving this problem.... i went to HONDA and asked them for the code. Just make sure to write down the serial numbers and any other numbers written on your CD player (Yes, you'll have to rip apart the center console and all that stuff) so they can look up your code. Just so i never forgot the number, i just wrote it on my CD player in case it ever happens again. (yea....yea.. that cd player is worthless anyways). Hope that helps.

you can request the radio code from the dealer. Call your dealer and ask them what info they need.

If they say they need to pull the head unit, call another dealer.

Call the dealer, give him your vin # and your problem is solved.
The dealer has all these codes listed by vehicle vin - if they tell you otherwise, call another dealer. They may ask you to come down in person (to make sure you're not trying to get a code for a stolen deck) but that's not too great a request.

Im curious as to what happens when you use the red key though. Now that i look at it im surprised the guy gave it to me seeing how he was a ***** and tried to screw me in every way. but what happens when you use the red key and dont have the code, cause im almost positive the bastard didnt give me the code.

Worked for me. I misplaced my radio code card, and simply called the dealer (Hoehn Honda - where I purchased the car), gave them the vin over the phone and had my code then and there. Don't know why you'd have to pull the serial # off the deck as the radio codes are assigned to the vehicle's vin #.
( I even had my org. deck replaced under warranty, and the service dept. had both radio codes in their records as they're assigned to the vehicle.)

Which model Apline deck? My oem cd player is dead and I'm wondering which model you'd reccomend - I don't want anything fancy, just a simple cd player. Also, are there any precautions/problems w/ using aftermarket decks and the 'acoustic feedback system'?

nope, plug a new deck n and your good to go, alse the feedback system is, is an amplified factory system. I recommend the Alpine 9807, its alittle pricey tho, any alpine deck is good, dont under pay for a deck tho, basically a factory deck is 300+ dollars, anything under that price it aint worth the quality. Stick with name brands like Alpine. stay away from Sony xplod, they explode.

you get what you pay for in audio.

by the way my stock head unit started skipping on all cds and eventually quit working, they are pos.. dunno why Honda went to all the trouble to code a pos, I dont know why anyone would even try to steal a stock system.

many times a normal honda dealership will have to pull the radio in order to get the code, but that i only because they have to know the exact model of the head unit in order to pull the code from the honda data base (i was told) If you go to the dealership where the car was originally bought, they will have it on site, and all the need is your VIN.

but seriously, get an aftermarket system. The gen 5's have clarion mini amps powering the back speakers, and they sound a ton better with an aftermarket. Also, the componants come alive with a new head. If you are doing a full system, i really would do a new head first, then subs, then new speakers all around, if you decide you even need them. I found out i dont, they sound really really good with the new head.

Open your glove box and look all around the inside and outside it to see if the code was stuck on the side somewhere inconspicuous. Mine was and also on my g-friends civic si. It was a little rectangular sticker with the code on it. It comes like that when you buy it new and some people will pull off this sticker and hide the number in the glove box out of plain view. Heck it want hurt to look.

my code is on a sticker (5 digit) on the left side of the glove box. FYI the red key is used to program our fancy keys to work in your car if you have that feature, the blinking green light that looks like a key... If you put the red key in, you are looking at the possibility of erasing the memory of all your regular keys. Dont use it

Just use the code as a reason to buy a new head unit, but dont go cheap or it wont last.
Ive payed 100 for a cd player before and it lasted 2-3 months, i payed 350 for my alpine and its working awesomely great for 8 months.
Alpine 9807- also plays mp3 and xm compadable.
If you do a full stereo go Headunit, then 4 speakers, (i recommend eclipse 4 ways, crystal clear) then get a 4chn amp for the speakers, then do subs. Make it sound good before you add bass, then it will sound outstanding. Once you add bass it drowns out the details of bad speakers, but if you have good speakers and bass it sounds very nice.

just go to the dealer with the vin and car of course and they can provide the code for you. if it's not the original one from the car, you'll have to pull it out and look at the serial number and the dealer can provide you with the code from that
