Default Alternator belt to tight?

I installed a new alternator belt and I losened up my crank pully to get it on then i tightned it. Now I can hear the belts making a winding noise like a spooling sound. Is that normal or is the belt tooo tight???

How much play is in the belt?

Did you use the alternator belt tensioner bolt to apply tension? I'm not sure how you would go about tensioning the belt otherwise.

If the belt has no play and feels very tight, then you need to loosen the tensioning bolt. If there's too much play, you need more tension on the belt.

If you are installing a new belt, there should be about 0.18 - 0.28 inches of deflection between the crank pulley and the alternator pulley with 22 lbs of pressure applied.
