Default 98 Prelude has trouble starting in cold weather.

i've had the car just about a year now. i've had zero reliability issues with the car since day one.

this weekend started the first we've seen of "freezing" cold weather.

and both mornings i've gotten up to go into work, my car has a real tough time getting started.

it turns over fine and the power from the battery is strong...

it feels as if im not getting any fuel.. it just turns over. after multiple tries it starts to sputter a bit.. and after numerous tries, i can get it to grab if i give it a little gas.

anybody have any ideas of what the culprit could be without me taking it to a shop.

if more information is needed just let me know.

thanks in advance.

this is just a guess, but maybe you've got condensation in the fuel lines freezing? you could maybe try dumping a can of seafoam in your gas tank with your next fill up and see if that helps. maybe check your fuel filter and injectors too, although the seafoam in the gas would clean those up as well.

I had this same problem starting Monday morning. I too thought it was freezing condensation in the fuel lines. I eventually got it started, ran to the gas station and put a can of Heet in along with a full tank of gas. Thought that was it.

Well, went out to start it again this morning, same thing. I suspect it was my catalytic converter was clogged, so I replaced it. Guess I'll wait for it to get real cold again and see if that was the problem. Hope this sheds some light on your problem.

Been having similar issues now that it's so cold here. (Same, it gets cold in Mississippi too.) But mine is all in the starter, doesn't even try to turn over. Only way I've been able to get it to turn over is touching a screwdriver from the Starter Bolt to the frame for a split second and it starts right up. I'm guessin the cold weather is lockin my Starter up. Cold ftl.
