98 prelude base transmission interchangeabilty?
Hey guys. Picking up a 98 prelude automatic this friday. I'm fairly new with preludes and accords but worked on and have knowledge of d,b, and k series engines and trans. I read that it is common to find these prelude with transmission slipping and that is what the prelude I'm picking up is doing.
My question is What year prelude and or/ accord automatic transmission will bolt up to the 98 prelude? Just wanna know before I purchase the car.
I am not looking to spend much since I'll be fixing other small problems on the car like drive axles, ps pump, and transmission

You have three solutions:
1. Replace the same prelude tranny (although be prepared it will break soon).
2. Replace with any accord/4gen prelude transmission with all electronics.
3. Swap to manual.

Ebay has transmissions from $300-$600+ without shipping.
I would swap to manual and never have to worry about replacing it anymore.

Well I didn't pick up the lude yet. The engine has 240,xxx miles not sure if I want to spend money on converting it to a 5spd. My plan was just to swap in a transmission, ps pump or just the seal since it's leaking and clean up the whole car and then flip it.
It would be nice if it had less miles, I would definitely convert to 5 spd cuz my automatic tsx is staring to bore me lol

Pentaq
When you say swap with 4G accord prelude electronics, WHT do you mean? Like a ecu?

240k miles? Man, that **** must be burning tons of oil. Mine definitely does at 238k miles. Out here that car wouldn't be worth fixing, but on Cali the body is probably in pretty good shape. I still doubt you're going to be able to flip it as a working car for very much money, unless you're getting it for free. If so, use the search feature and look up a "how to" thread for the 5sp swap and just do that. You can get 5sp transmissions for pretty cheap.
